Elevita September 2018 Review

Once again, everything arrived in this lovely cotton drawstring bag! Such a nice bonus!

elevita september 2018 booklet

This is the letter I received in my package this month, detailing the contents. I especially appreciate the detail it provides about the artisans who created this month's handicrafts. It gives it such a special, personal touch!

Supply Case, Ghana

One of my absolute favorite things to receive in a subscription box is something that has been hand-batiked in Ghana! Batiking is a popular traditional craft in Ghana, and I love to see that Elevita is helping to ensure it is a fairly traded skill. What a wonderful industry! This little case is unusual in that I have never seen batik in muted shades of gray, it is really different! I like that. It appears to be cotton and zips all the way around, which is another really unusual feature. It's pretty handy!

African Black Soap, Ghana - Retail Value $7

I am a big fan of African Black Soap, it is divine on dry skin thanks to the inclusion of a heavy shea butter content. That usually also means that it does not lather well, but this particular soap makes an excellent lather! I love it! It's unscented but has the slight smell of shea butter. Global Mamas is the organization that makes this soap and supports people in Accra with dependable, steady work that pays a fair wage.

Necklace, Phillippines

Elevita features beadwork from this particular artisan almost every month, and I get the sense that this might be her job. I am glad that they are helping her support her family! I sometimes complain about getting so many pieces from her, but I am not complaining one bit about this beautiful necklace. I love how shiny it is, and I love gunmetal. It is really cute!

The Verdict: Elevita is awesome! I really appreciate everything they do to help global artisans, and I love feeling like I'm a part of that. This month's items were all great! I can't often find values for the items Elevita sends, but I always feel like the value far outstrips the cost of the box. Thirty dollars for these lovely items is a steal!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you order by 10/18 you will receive the October box.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $30 with free shipping, which means that each of the 3 items in the box has an average cost of $10.
