Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size, deluxe-sized, or sample products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think it’s one of the best value beauty subscriptions and a great way to build out your makeup collection on the cheap!

This is one of my top recommendations if you are looking for a beauty box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out my list of the Top Beauty Boxes for 2018 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products. (Plus a makeup bag!)

Ships to: US and Canada

Delivered via: USPS

Each month, ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items.

This one is a black fabric with white lashes painted on, and platinum faux leather trim and zipper tassel pull.

Now, on to the items!

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara - 3.5 g Value $8.84

This is the best new mascara formula I've sampled this year! It gave my lashes incredible volume, length, and I had no clumping issues. I will definitely buy this in the future!

BELLÁPIERRE COSMETICS Matte Mineral Lipstick in Incognito - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $20

This formula gives full coverage in one swipe, the formula isn't too drying for a matte finish, and the color is a good neutral pink for my skin tone. Here it is swatched:

SMASHBOX Photo Finish Primerizer – 4 ml Value $4

I’ve been using primer/moisturizer hybrids lately since my skin is so dry, and I really liked this one. It feels great on my skin, it gave me just a little bit of hydration, and my foundation has stayed put all day.

MARC ANTHONY Bye.Bye Frizz Miracle Treatment - 1.01 oz Value $2.97?

This hair mask is free of Sulfates, SLS, Parabens, and Phthalates! It's designed to help moisturize hair and fight frizz. You only need to apply it for 1-3 minutes post-shampoo, then rinse off. I was happy to see that it didn't make my hair greasy, but it didn't do much for moisture. (I think I noticed a very subtle difference in moisture and softness.)

BRTC Vitamin F Velvet Mask - Retail Value $4.50

(For this sample, Ipsy included two masks as a duo.)

BRTC Vitamin C Velvet Mask - Retail Value $4.50

The Vitamin F mask is designed to help hydrate and moisturize skin, and the Vitamin C mask is designed to help brighten uneven skin tone. Out of the two, the Vitamin F was my favorite since it was scented with Lavender vs the artificial fragrance in the Vitamin C mask. Neither were groundbreaking amazing masks for me, so I wouldn't buy them in the future, but they were good enough!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $44.81 I think that's a great value, and even though every product isn't for me, the mascara discovery alone was worth the $10 cost in my opinion!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you'll get next month's box as your first box. (Check out our Ipsy Spoilers to see what's coming up next)

Good to know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

So I just recieved my first monthly subscription to ipsy and I like it alot but I was thinking of canceling and getting boxycharm instead mainly because its full-sized products so Im trying to deciede what I should do because I really enjoyed most of the products in my glam bag I just hate they arent full-sized and it looks like boxycharm has more high end products like tarte. In the glam bag this month I received treStique english rose lip glaze, intensive hair masque(havent used yet), morphe highlighter, matte bronzer, and a luxie brush. I love the products wish i could of gotten an eyeshadow palette and I just feel they wont last long except the brush of course. Any thoughts or opinions on if I should switch or if any of you have subsribed to boxycharm.

Depends what you think of high end… there is a LOT of PUR in boxy like every single box lot and I don’t like that brand at all. Also a lot of Bella Pierre. The shadow palettes have either been amazing or pretty crappy so if you don’t like a product then you’re stuck with a full size one. No customization though there is definite variation. I enjoyed Boxycharm but I ended up going into makeup overload pretty quickly. I use makeup almost daily and there was still no way to go through a shadow palette pet month or all that highlighter! So while the samples are small you will at least use them up or not feel bad throwing them out at least that’s how I ended up feeling towards the end… but if you like Ipsy and only the size is the issue the new plus bag with be your customized Ipsy with full size products

All I wanted really badly out of this months bag was the IBY Fire and ice eyeshadow. Anyone up for trading let me know. I’ll post what I’ve got for tradsies. 🙂

This will be my first glam bag ever and I am really excited about all the things I’m getting. I cannot wait to try the highlighter or the eye shadow I’m getting. The blush looks too bright and just seems like I would need to use only a little bit on my fair skin.

Overall I am impressed about my first glam bag and cannot wait to see what they have in store for October, even though some have been revealed.

Also thanks for the forum, this helped me find out which subscription was better for me and my new obsession with makeup.

I wasn’t excited to find an ad for Wal-Mart on the bottom of the Marc Anthony pot.

I don’t shop at Wal-Mart and I disapprove of most of their business practices.

I kinda of feel the same way, I’m getting the hair product from Mark Anthony and I’m disappointed that it sells at Walmart too. I think if it was Target it would be ok.

I didn’t get anything that’s shown in the pictures above for this months bag.. I got a all natural chapstick, a really pretty loose eyeshadow, an eyeshadow blending brush, a super fine point liquid eyeliner pen and a “priming lip wand” in color Belle which is a very vibrant pinkish red and definitely to much for me.

I also received the TreStick Magenta lip color. I just can’t wear that color, it looks bad on me, but I bet it would look awesome on someone else! Anyone interested in trading a different item for it? I’d love to try the Bella Incognito lip color. Message me @jacquelinedaqueen on insta.

My bag came out pretty well except for the Trestique lip color.

Mumbai Magenta is a bright pink which does not look on me. Would have so preferred the English Rose.

Sephora sells it, maybe I’ll get it there.

Melissa

Same here! Don’t like the color but the way it feels on is good. I guess it’s the “glaze” part lol

Very nice bag you received from Ipsy. They are doing a great job.

I too am thankful for the bag I will be receiving this week.

Everything in it is something I have set up in my profile, as desired.

All I wanted was to get the hourglass mascara and maybe a good lippie, a mask that was for my skin type would’ve been amazing… But No… I get a bag of kiddie makeup that I can’t even open cuz I have neuropathy in my hands and it’s so tiny… Ipsy=Canceled after a year I should be getting better than this junk 😞

I was disappointed with the products i was given…was hoping for that mascara and lipstick. Let’s hope they continue with more full size products like they used to do.

Nice bag!

So happy to see they are back to creative bags. I felt like the last 3 were super lazy and boring. I am getting the primer, glad you like it and looking forward to trying it out!

I love this cute bag. The hair conditioner is the only item I’m getting. @lizcadman did you notice it helped detangle? I’ve found several conditioners to use as a detangling wash after using a more moisturizing one.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Yes, I think it should help with detangling. That isn’t usually a big issue for me, but I noticed it was easier to comb my fingers through my hair when I applied my styling cream post-shower. Hope that helps!

The you have the Glam Bag opened in the photo just before “Now, on to the items!” makes it look like it’s laughing, especially with the red inside. 😄 I love it!

I thought the exact same thing, it reminds me of Janice from The Muppet Show!😄

It totally looks like Janice Muppet, especially with the zipper tassel (blond hair)! #CantUnSee

Man, every time I think I’m getting a pretty good bag, I see yours and it’s always so much better. lol

I was actually thinking about how glad I was I got my bag instead of that one! I guess it goes to show how different everyone is. We shared the Hair Treatment, and the Primerizer (both of which I am excited to try). Then I also got the 111skin space defense bright eye lift gel (the sample is worth $65! So excited to try this!), Trestique mini lip glaze, and a Skone waterproof eyeliner. I will use and love every item. I would have used the masks but I would even have preferred the other masks offered over those. And I definitely wouldn’t have wanted the mascara (I can only use waterproof in this humidity here) or the nude lipstick. I definitely don’t think she always gets the best bag. It is a matter of taste. I’m not gonna lie though. I would have loved some of the stuff she got last month!

Yes, the Glam Bag reviews on here are always tons better than what I’ve gotten! This bag would be nearly perfection for me.

My bag
Luna highlighter(again)
Hempz body lotion
Luxie Harley Quinn brush
Eve-nyc leave-in treatment
Lord & Berry purple eyeliner

They have a reason for everything they send. I keep twerking my profile & questionnaire answers to try & get what I want. It seems to be working.

Dea

Agreed. Totally, 100% agreed.

And yes, it’s totally Janice the muppet!
