Le Noir Bazaar - The Dark Market August 2018 Review
As always, there was a card included that detailed both the items inside as well as their listed value. It seems like the theme here is one of divination; using items to try and glean some insight into the future. Normally divination is seen in fiction as being achieved through supernatural means, so I think for this box it means these items might be a little witchier than usual! Hooray!
Black Bird Necklace - Listed Value $21
I originally thought this necklace was just the pretty branches when I first opened it; I didn’t find the little blackbird until a little later!
Branches Makeup Bag - Listed Value $8
I’m the type of person that always has little objects lying around or stuck in purses! Bags like this are a lifesaver for me - I can corral the 14 kinds of chapstick and lipgloss I have stuck in a drawer, or this bag would be perfect for my car charger, wall charger, and battery bank for my phone. My favorite use for this bag, though, might be to take my witchiness on the go - this bag perfectly fits the tarot deck and mini cauldron found in this box (more on those two in a bit).
Triple Moon Altar Cloth - Listed Value $9
Altar cloths are so interesting because there are so many different patterns, and somehow, Le Noir Bazaar this month picked my favorite color and favorite witchy motif!
Black Opium Incense - Listed Value $5
Black opium incense is a great choice for a divination-themed box! Black opium is often used in Wicca as an aid for lucid dreaming and to induce prophetic dreams. I really like the conical shape to these; my incense is all in the slender sticks, but this has a nice shape, and I think they’d burn nicely in a little bowl or shell I usually use for burning sage. The smell is intense; it’s one of the top scents that comes to mind someone says the word, “incense.” But I think lighting these briefly in a somewhat bigger space would offer a lot of ambiance for very little effort!
Ceccoli Mini Tarot Deck - Listed Value $12
There’s usually at least one item that fills my heart with joy in these boxes, and this month, it was this unbelievably adorable tarot set. Seriously - when I realized that this tiny, almost matchbook-sized box was full of an entire set of tarot cards, I squealed out loud. I wasn’t familiar with Italian artist Nicoletta Ceccoli’s dreamlike work prior to receiving this box, but I’m so happy for the introduction. These cards were created from Ceccoli’s prior work; using her existing paintings and applying them to the suits of the tarot. The tarot suits are fairly typical here - wands, swords, cups, and pentacles, and this tiny-but-mighty set include both the major and minor arcana. I like to pull a card at the beginning of the week to give myself focus, and these are small enough to keep in my bag at all times!
Mini Cauldron - Listed Value $8
I swear this box reads my mind. I went to Lily Dale with a friend just a few weeks ago, and at a gift shop there a cauldron caught my eye - I nearly bought it as a souvenir! I love this piece for on-the-go smudging or, as I mentioned, for burning the incense included in this box. Cauldrons are often used in Wiccans altars and rituals as a representation of the Goddess’s womb, but I think this could also be used for scrying if that’s your thing: just fill it with water, a little bit of black food coloring, and it would create the perfect surface for it!
Blackberry Sage Soap - Listed Value $6
Although I’m discussing it last, the final item was present throughout the boxing of all the goodies - everything smelled faintly like this soap as I was looking all of the items over. I’m a tea fanatic, and one of my very favorite blends is the blackberry sage variety. This smells so rich and I love the intricate design. It’s fruity but not too sweet, and while it gives a nice lather, it also rinses easily.
Verdict: Another box this month to fill up all the spaces in my witchy heart! I love the tools they selected for us this month; the incense, altar cloth, and the cauldron, and that teeny tarot deck are going to get so much use in my house. I loved the necklace, soap, and makeup bag too - they’re just perfect for my aesthetic and also have great purposes in my day-to-day life.
To Wrap Up:
Can I still get this box if I sign up today? Sadly, no! You’ll receive the October box. Boxes ship by the 14th every month.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $35.99 + $7 shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $6.14. Way, way less than what these items are listed as being worth, and way less than I could’ve found them for on my own!
