August 2018 Loot Crate DX Mayhem Review

The August 2018 Loot Crate DX "Mayhem" box featured two different Joker items, Rick and Morty, and The Walking Dead.

It comes with a fold-out information card that details the items in your box.

Chill Out Pin - Value $10?

This was a weird one. Typically, it will arrive with a franchise-themed pin - but the August pin was an ice cream cone that you'd receive in 3 different variants. Am I missing a geeky reference here?

Joker Raglan Tee - Value $15-20?

The first Joker item this month is a raglan style t-shirt.

I had to go back and look because this design looked familiar - it was used on The Joker's cards in the Death of the Family story arc from Batman: New 52.

It's tagless and licensed, too.

Rick and Morty Portal Picnic Blanket - Value $25-30?

The easy winner for the best item of the month is this versatile picnic blanket.

It easily folds up for storage and makes it very easy to carry.

It's sizable, too - perfect for a picnic in the park. The material feels nice and rugged - durable enough to hold up to bad weather ruining your picnic.

Buckles and I enjoy our faux picnic photoshoot!

Joker The Killing Joke Socks - Value $10-12

The second Joker item of the month is a pair of sublimated socks featuring the cover of The Killing Joke.

I've always loved this cover - so it's cool to get that all-over print on socks. I'm a thoroughly ready for cold weather.

The Walking Dead Official Cookbook and Survival Guide - On Sale $18 (Retail $30)

The final item in the box is a Walking Dead themed cookbook from Insight Editions.

It has some character-themed dishes along with food seen in the show - like a recipe for Carl's chocolate pudding!

Verdict: The pin was just such an odd choice that I kind of set a weird tone for the August box. I was a big fan of the Rick and Morty portal blanket - and since that was the highest value item, I'm glad I was. Overall, it was a decent month - but not one that was over-the-top for me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No – you can find the current month available at the top of their homepage. They are currently taking October subscriptions – every month’s cutoff date to order is the 19th of the month at midnight EST.

I’m loving that Buckles was your guest model for the picnic blanket! I think more reviews should feature Buckles 🙂

So glad I skipped this box, the only thing I like about it is the pin 🙂 I’m hoping that November brings some fandoms that I like. Thanks for sharing this

If I had to guess I would say it referenced the Snowy Cones ice cream factory where Mr. Freeze hid out in Batman and Robin

I was kinda thinking the ice cream truck the guys hid in in Killer Klowns…….
but it is excessively vague.

I could see that – and that was my first thought, too – but I would assume they would have done some type of reference on the card, at least.
