Switch Designer Jewelry Rental Subscription Review + Coupon – September 2018

Switch Designer Jewelry
4.7 overall rating
34 Ratings | 85 Reviews

Switch is a jewelry rental service that lets you try out designer jewelry without the commitment. You pick your favorite pieces and try them out for as long as you want with a monthly fee. This is a review of the 3 pieces at a time plan.

Switch also offers the option to purchase jewelry pieces at a discounted member price. For every month that you’re a member, you get a $10 credit that you can use towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry at the special member price.

The order is contained in a sturdy black box, perfect for safe storage of these borrowed pieces.

Switch will always use USPS First Class mail to send your jewelry unless it weighs more than 1 pound. Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you’re the nervous type. Shipping is free both ways, and they just ask that you package it just as you received it to return to them. It’s important to save the mailer and packaging for your return.

Switch Subscription Box September 2018 Review

The order is topped with a bunch of different info cards. The first explains how you should take care of your jewelry.

The next card provides instructions on what to do when you’re ready to switch.

The sent with love card explains that prior to receiving the jewelry, each piece has been cleaned and sanitized, had its authenticity guaranteed, as well as some other info about the subscription. Minor wear and tear is covered as well!

The final two inserts explain how you can refer a friend (for each friend you refer you get an additional $10 towards your membership) and how to purchase pieces if you fall in love with one of them.

When you activate your subscription, you get to select the pieces that you want to receive from their available inventory. They’ve also recently incorporated a “favoriting” function where you can star pieces for future selections!

MARNI Double Strand Bracelet in Pink Leather – Retail Value $440, Member Price $310

If you follow my reviews, you might know that I'm very into leather wrap bracelets right now. If you don't, then let me tell you – I am very in to leather wrap bracelets! I find them perfect for this time of year, and as a "work from home" modern woman, I find they give my outfit the right level of pep to help me feel polished while being casual enough for my day to day life (running errands over lunch, throwing laundry in, and OOOOOOO so many conference calls). This dark and light pink bovine leather bracelet features 5 faux pearl beads, and measures around 20" in length and is ¼" wide – making it a great fit for my 6.5" wrist. It has a snap closure – and can be dressed up or down! I love being able to borrow this piece because while I love it, I don't think it's a timeless investment piece of jewelry and might not be in style for the long haul.

CHANEL Pink Enamel Camellia Pendant Necklace

CHANEL Pink Enamel Camellia Pendant Necklace – Retail Value $750, Member Price $525

Even more, than I like wrap bracelets, I LOVE vintage Chanel! This necklace is circa 2003 (which would have been my freshman year of college, and I would have died for this necklace back then but most certainly couldn't afford it at that stage of life!). I love the gold tone and the adorable (roughly) 2” x 2” pink enamel embossed camellia motif pendant. The chain measures 16.5” long and features small CC logo charms both above the flower pendant and at the clasp. While I like the length, I am not a fan of the clasp. I find it difficult to put on myself and had to have my husband give me a hand.

Yves Saint Laurent Arty Oval Ring (Black and Green) Size 7– Retail Value $250, Member Price $225

Whomp, Whomp. This piece didn't work for me. It's both too big and too little. It's listed as a size 7 (my wedding ring is a 6.5, so this should have definitely at least fit my ring finger) but as you can see from the photos I couldn't get it past my knuckle! The only finger it slipped onto was my pinky, and it's WAY too big to wear as a pinky ring. In my opinion, I think this piece looks better on the site than in person. This ring is pretty, it's 5K yellow gold and features a black gold, and green resin cabochon embellishment – but it seems a bit unbalanced in its design. Anyways, you get my drift – I won't add this one to my favorites and hubby if you're reading this, don't add it to my Christmas list. 😊

The Verdict: I would be hard-pressed to ever have a bad feeling about a sub that lets me borrow essentially unlimited amounts (you can switch your pieces at any time, and have 3 pieces out for $69/month) of this type of jewelry from luxury brands. I picked the pieces, so obviously I was excited by what I got – and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite between the leather wrap bracelet and the vintage Chanel necklace.

In this Switch shipment, I tried out $1,440 of jewelry for $69 – which is about 4.8% of their retail value. That’s a solid deal right there!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription, meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list. It’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

Value Breakdown: These three pieces cost $69.00 to rent, which is a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too). To rent just one piece per month is $29.00, so you’re saving about $6.00 per piece to go for the larger subscription.

The member price for all 3 of these pieces is $1,060 in total. At retail, they’d cost $1,440. Members get $10.00 to put towards a piece, so that’s $1,050 to buy everything, which is around a 27% discount. I am not buying anything this month, but if I were (and money didn’t matter!) – it would be the Marni bracelet.

the YSL ring size is located on the back, from pics it seems to be a size 6 hence why it doesn’t fit! HTH
