The Holo Hookup September 2018 "Ch-Ch-Changes" Review
Just a heads up, this subscription does not come with an info sheet. All of the value estimates are from what a different holographic polish from the brand would cost. Also, holographic polishes are notoriously difficult to photograph. I did my best, but I promise you that all of the polishes look even better in person.
Cupcake Polish in A-maze-ing, 15 mL – Estimated Value $13 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup, but check out other holographic polishes from Cupcake Polish here)
First up this month we have A-maze-ing, a blue linear holo with green to gold duochrome shift. Depending on the lighting this color also looked gray! I love duochromes for the stunning colorshifts, and the fact that they are combined with holographic glitter means this entire box is going to be a real treat.
Here is what the polish looked like indoors.
And here is direct sunlight. The green really came out to play when the sun hit! The formula was too easy coats with no pulling.
Different Dimension in Sick of Your Crop, 15 mL – Estimated Value $11 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup, but check out other holographic polishes from Different Dimension here)
Oh man. Oh man oh man oh man. This polish right here may be the polish to end all polishes. I am STUNNED with how absolutely beautiful this copper/violet/pink multi-chrome is, and the rainbow holo plus the additional scattered silver holo makes it such a knockout.
Here it is in indoor lighting. I love that it is unique here, but I didn’t expect the sparkle-fest that occurred when I stepped out into the light.
Here it is in direct sunlight. Look at that beauty! The full rainbow spectrum of holo comes out to play when the sun hits, and I literally cannot stop staring. This polish definitely needs two coats, as the first coat is a bit patchy until the second coat smooths everything out. I have been wearing this for two days on my left hand with no topcoat, but this has been chip-free and shiny the entire time.
Glisten & Glow in Everyday I’m Rustlin’, 15 mL – Estimated Value $12 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup. Check out the other polishes offered by Glisten & Glow here)
I’ll be honest, until I stepped out into the sun with the Different Dimension polish I totally thought this one would be my favorite of the month. It is a blue/purple multi-chrome both linear holo and scattered silver micro-glitter. This looks just like the night sky!
Here is what it looks like indoors.
And here is direct sunlight. Like Sick of Your Crop, I have been wearing this for two days with no top coat on my right hand, and it has stayed chip-free and shiny.
Spell Polish in Apple Thieves, 15 ml – Estimated Value $17 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup. Check out the other polishes offered by Spell Polish here)
Spell Polish is a new brand to me, and my first impression was a good one. Apple Thieves is a red/orange/gold multi-chrome with galaxy holo micro glitter. This is such a great fall shade, and I am really picking up the autumn vibes this polish is throwing down.
Here is the polish indoors.
And here is direct sunlight. This was a bit patchy after one coat, but the second smoothed things out perfectly. I love tall bottles like this because it means the nail polish brush is going to be longer than normal, and I always found that gives me more control.
The Verdict: W.O.W. When I knew this box would be both duochrome and holo themed I knew it would be something special, but this is truly spectacular. This is, hands down, the best box I have received from The Holo Hookup, and Sick of Your Crop is one of the best polishes of all time that I have ever used. I know this box gets a lot of flak for being on the pricier end, but I guarantee you that you can walk into Ulta, Sallys, and whatever other beauty supply store you like and you will not come out with one close to Sick of Your Crop in terms of both holo and duochrome. Polishes of this degree are usually ordered from online specialty retailers or the brands themselves, but the price is also higher due to the ingredients that go into making a great duochrome. You may not think the $44 cost for these four polishes is worth it, but I think the $11 price per bottle is a steal for both the quality and the truly unique polishes received this month.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is now sold out. Check back here for when the October box goes on sale.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $40 + $4 shipping, which means that each of the 4 nail polishes in the box has an average cost of $11.
