All Around Vegan October 2018 Review
All Around Vegan is a fairly new box for me. Let’s see what they sent this month:
There was a standard information card with more details about the items in the box, including how they fit the categories nutrition, lifestyle, bath/body, and activism. Sometimes there is product literature as well.
Soothing Touch Lemon Cardamom Lip Balm, 0.25 oz – Retail Value $2.19
This is a good-quality lip balm that doesn’t get gritty even in cold weather. (Grittiness is a problem I have with some vegan lip balms, especially those with cocoa butter and shea butter, which are pretty darn solid at room temperature.) It is also larger than the average lip balm. (They are usually 0.15 oz, but this is 0.25 oz.) The lemon cardamom flavor is nice for fall without having too much of a pumpkin spice vibe, too.
Crayola Chalk, 12 sticks – Retail Value $2.99
The “activism” item for the month is this chalk. You also get a card about the vegan chalk challenge, which essentially calls for you to decorate sidewalks, etc. with vegan messages using chalk (so it’s non-destructive and doesn’t require clean-up, which is considerate). Anyway, it’s been a long time since I had any sidewalk chalk, and this stuff is very bright and vibrant. It’s also nice to get a quality name brand.
The Good Bean Sweet Cinnamon Crunchy Chickpeas, 6 oz – Buy 6 bags for $27.00 here
These are coated lightly with cinnamon sugar, and they’re not overly sweet. The texture is good, too. I’m not sure I’m sold on non-savory flavors for chickpea snacks as a first choice, though I wouldn’t turn these down if I came across them again. (Honestly, the only reason they’re not gone already is because I received like 8 subscription boxes with food items last week.)
Enjoy Life Chocolate Bar with Ricemilk, 1.12 oz – Retail Value $2.39
This company is known for making snack foods without all the major allergens (including the top 8, but also some things like sesame that you don’t hear about as often). Anyway, this is their non-dairy “milk” chocolate. I will say, this does not taste a lot like (dairy) milk chocolate, but it is smoother and creamier than dark chocolate, so if you are vegan and miss milk chocolate, or if you have a milk or lactose allergy, you should definitely check this out.
Yumearth Organic Licorice in Peach Flavor, 5 oz – Retail Value $4.99
I was really not sure what I would think of this until I tried it, but both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised. This candy was not too hard to chew, and I never worried about my dental work. Plus, the peach flavor totally worked.
Planet Protein Peanut Butter Cup Nutrition Bar, 73 g – Buy 8 bars for $24.00 here
I split this with my husband. It did kind of stick to both of our teeth, though we both agreed that it wasn’t nearly as gritty as a lot of other plant-based protein bars. It was more like a nutrition bar than a candy bar in terms of flavor, but not in terms of calories. One bar is kind of high at 290 calories and 11 grams of sugar, but it has no sugar alcohols and no ambiguous “natural flavors.” So whether this item is for you is going to depend somewhat on what you’re looking for in a bar. I tend to stick to items with sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners to keep the sugar and calories low, but everyone’s needs are different, and I appreciate getting the chance to try it.
Pumpkin Carving Stencil and Tools
There are approximately one million pumpkin carving sets online right now, and they are all a little different, so I did not even try to estimate a value here. The idea with this kit is that you use the piece of paper as a stencil and trace the vegan logo onto a pumpkin, then carve it out with the included tools. Maybe I will try to carve a pumpkin this year. (Last year I scheduled surgery for Halloween, so I am a bit more in the holiday spirit this year.)
Soothing Touch Tuscan Bouquet Brown Sugar Scrub, 8 oz – Buy 16 oz for $9.59 here
This brand is completely new to me, so it was nice to try several of their items. (They also make the lip balm featured earlier.) I love scrubs, they’re probably my favorite bath and body item to receive (and I also go through them super fast). I am hard-pressed to describe the scent, but it has lavender, bergamot, sandalwood, and vanilla, so I guess I would call it sort of perfume-like? Anyway, I love sandalwood and vanilla, and I am also a fan of lavender and citrus scents. I’d say this has just a touch more oil than I’d like. (I tend to prefer low-oil scrubs.) But overall, I’m happy with it, and it will get used up pretty fast.
One with Nature Dead Sea Minerals Grapefruit Guava Triple Milled Soap (7 oz) – Retail Value $4.99
You’ll get bars of soap every few months with this subscription. But they are always quite nice. This one is larger than a standard bar by a few ounces, and it also is at a good price point. It smells lovely (I do like tropical scents in bath/body products) and seems moisturizing so far. I am a fan and would be happy to see other products from this brand in future boxes.
Verdict: I did not calculate a value for All Around Vegan this month because many of the food items were not available for individual purchase. I thought the value was nicely spread among the items, with nothing taking up the majority of the value, so even if one item doesn’t work for you, you are still getting a lot of value out of the box. I was a big fan of the bath and body items this month and was happy to get so many snacks I could eat without bothering to read the ingredients lists. I also thought the Halloween/fall theme was evident in most of the items.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. If you sign up now, you’ll get the November box (ships November 1) as your first box.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $42.45 (with shipping), and there were 9 items, so the average cost per item ends up being about $4.71.
