California Found September 2018 Review
Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative. It also points out that they donate 10% of their profit every month to a charitable cause, and this month it's the California Community Foundation Wildfire Relief Fund. I'm glad to hear that; those wildfires sound really scary. Also, the little band holding the cards together is embedded with wildflower seeds, so it's plantable! So awesome! And finally, they have added a Golden Ticket contest - so if you find one in your sizzle, you get a free box for yourself or a friend!
Sunshine Saltwater" Sign by The Salty Life Co. - Retail Value $18
This wall art is so cute! It makes me want to get back to the beach ASAP. I think it would look great in a beach house. I don't happen to have one, but my sister lives by the beach, so I might pass this along to her. It's a really nice design, though. The artist behind The Salty Life Co. is Erin Witters, who has a deep connection to the ocean and is based on the California Central Coast.
Crunchy Beauty Underarm Clay Mask - Retail Value $15
Crunchy Beauty Natural Deodorant - Retail Value $15
I am all about Crunchy Beauty, so I was excited to find these two products in my box this month! I actually am one of the lucky few who sometimes gets irritated by commercially available deodorants, so I am always trying all-natural gems such as these. But I have to admit, I have never heard of an underarm mask! But why not? I am so glad California Found turned me on to the concept! It's a deep cleaning mask that prepares the skin for natural deodorant, which is brilliant. Underarm smell is caused not by sweating, but by the natural flora that resides on the skin who survive on that sweat, so a deep clean is a great idea to help minimize that biota. It left my underarms feeling softer, too. And the deodorant worked like a charm! Geranium is a scent that took me a while to get used to, but it supposedly a big part of my "floral profile", and now I love it. Crunchy Beauty is the company of Anaheim-based Miriam Mabrey, a former science teacher who decided to put her efforts into all-natural skincare and I'm so glad she did!
Shrub Syrup (2 oz.) by Burly Beverages - Retail Value $5.95
How am I just now hearing about shrub cocktails? I had no idea what this was when I opened it, to be honest, but when I researched it I was peeved to find out I have been missing a whole cocktail trend! For those who don't know, like me, it's a fruit and vinegar based syrup for mixing into cocktails. The scent was super strong when I opened it, so I tried it in a little plain soda water. It's good! It reminds me a little of kombucha. Plus, I love that Burly Beverages contain no corn syrup, added preservatives, "gross chemicals or weird stuff." The company is based out of Sacramento and was founded by mixologist Gabriel Aiello.
Facekins Sample Pack by Facekins - Retail Value $12.50
This is a really environmentally conscious package this month, and I am so happy about that! Facekins are reusable, washable, super soft polyester pads that can be used in place of disposable cotton balls or pads during one's skincare routine. They do a great job taking my makeup off! I think I would need to buy more to use them exclusively, but it would probably be worth it. I prefer the square ones, for some reason. Facekins is the brainchild of Tustin, California based Connie Simon.
Lynzie Necklace by K. Leone Designs - Retail Value $40
This necklace is so pretty, and I'm just thrilled that I received the lapis variety. I love it! I love dainty jewelry like this for layering. It's real lapis and sterling silver! This is the second piece California Found has sent me from Los Angeles jeweler Kristine Leone, and I couldn't be happier. Both pieces are just lovely!
The Verdict: California Found has become one of my favorite subscription boxes. This was another awesome box! The necklace this month is gorgeous - I love lapis! I also really like the natural skin care products. The value of everything adds up to $106.45, which is more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49!!!
