CHC Vintage October note from stylist

I love that each box comes with a handwritten note. It gives the items a little context and makes getting the box feel much more personal, curated, and special.

Pink Retro Bowling Tee

While nothing can compare to the quirkiness of last month's tee, this bright pink bowling shirt checks off all the boxes for a super unique, silly, fun design. "Musical pins"? Amazing! A bowling ball wearing sunglasses? It feels right out of one of those corny interstitial videos that play on the scoreboard screen at the bowling alleys of my youth.

I don't wear a ton of hot pink, but I'm going to find a way to make this tee work with my wardrobe. I might actually snip the hemline a bit so it has more of a boxier fit and wear it under a cute fall jacket with high-waisted jeans...

Chunky Retro Necklace

My accessory this month is something I'd NEVER have picked for myself, and I'm not sure if I love it or not. I do have a soft spot for outrageously over-the-top pieces like this one, but the color palette reminds me of one of those bottles of olives and peppers that you see at hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurants. Y'know what I mean? There's something very "dirty martini" about it...

Verdict: I love the quirk factor of this month's tee, though I'm not 100% sold on the necklace quite yet. I'm determined to find a way to make it work, though! (To all my vintage fans out there—how would you style it?) If you're someone who has time to do lots of treasure hunting around your local thrift and vintage shops, then the $30.00 price tag on this subscription might seem kind of excessive. You've gotta do some digging, but you could probably find tees and necklaces that share the same silly spirit of these picks for a fraction of the cost of this subscription. But that's the thing—you've gotta do the digging. And with my schedule, I just don't have the time to commit to thrifting the way I did in the past. So for me, this box is a great way to get my vintage fix without setting aside a day to shop.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, every box is different based on your style and size preferences.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $30.00, including free shipping (though note that you have to sign up for at least 3 months at one time, for a total of $90.00), meaning that the two featured items have an average of $15.00 each.

I LOVE that necklace!!! I’d just pair it with a plain white t-shirt and a denim jacket.

Sadly (or not?) I don’t need this subscription because I still have a dresser full of t-shirts from the mid 1990s.

Love it all but I MIST HAVE THAT SWEATSHIRT. That color is awesome!

Hahaha! Weirdly enough, it’s an old Gap men’s sweatshirt that my friend Tim (shoutout Tim!) was going to give to Goodwill before his big move to Nashville this summer. I was like, are you kidding??? Give it to ME! You wouldn’t think brown would be such an exciting color, but it’s SO perfect!!! Glad you feel the same <3

Bonnie

Me too!! That color, that sweatshirt. I want it.

I wonder if you could paint the necklace if you wanted it a bit less martini-ish. Red and teal would be awesome! You are my fav reviewer!

Aw, Mellissa, you are the nicest! And what a great suggestion! I’ll have to think on what my dream color palette would be… I might actually keep the olive and just paint over the red with a shade of yellow or blue – something that helps the olive pop/look a bit more modern. Thanks so much for your comment!

Anna, I LOVE the necklace. Actually, I love it a whole lot more than the t-shirt (although, as you said, it was hard to top the Mt. Rushmore shirt from last month). I agree with Erica that it would look great if you want to do a 60’s vibe. With those statement necklaces, it really helps to pair it with simple clothes and let it be the focus. Personally I’d pair it with plain solid color tops and jeans. It’s really fabulous…I hope you warm up to it.

Ugh, thank you so much for this great advice, Jenn! LOVE this! I dig the idea of going low-key with the rest of my outfit. (That’s also easy for me, being that MOST of my wardrobe is jeans and black tees, haha!) But I also love Erica’s suggestion of going full 60s mod with it! Oh necklace, what adventures we have in store for the two of us…

Erica

I love the look of the mid-century modern necklace!

Erica

maybe still it with a 60s-ish sleeveless mod dress, a la Twiggy!

I agree, a simple black mock or regular turtleneck A-line dress with a thick/wide red headband, knee boots and maybe a plain jacket…..or it could be a great costume party piece?!?!
***And I died laughing when I read the olive & pepper description because it was spot on!!! LoL!!!

Erica

*style! ugh.
