The advent calendar is now on the Diptyque US website. Is retailing for $425.

I don’t get it, what are you paying $350 here for? A bunch of candles?

It’s comical. You’re paying that price to have items with this weird name on it sitting around your house. LOL.

Hey, seriously, “The Trunk” from Drunk Elephant (collection of full size versions of all their items, or the majority of them, anyway) is $425.
Kinda puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?

There is something going on. I am having the same issues. I have actually emailed MSA inquiring about this.

I posted a reply to my original comment and also got screened and it has not been published. Not sure why it might have been innapropiate.

Maybe someone can help me with this. If you take the brand name off of these candles what is so special about them? I make my own all natural candles using essential oils for like $6 a candle. Someone please explain this to me.

For me is the quality and also I dont know how to make candles.
I cook a lot and with high quality ingredients. We rarely go out to eat because I have the same mind set “I can make this at home for a fraction of the price”.
Im sure everybody has categories where they like to splurge. For me is aromatherapy related items that makes my home smell like a spa.

I was soooo looking forward to this calendar as I havent spent more than $100 this yesr on subs (major restraint people!!!!) after seeing the spoilers I decided to go to the store instead ( I have one 20min driving from home) and buy several 2.4oz candles ln the scents I want…
I remember last year dyptique had an advent calendar in their website so Im curious if they will release one too.

What is so special about their candles? Besides the brand name? I am trying to figure out how this box is so much because I have never heard of this company before.

Diptyque is one of the most luxe candle and scent brands out there—all their scents are very unique and extremely layered and nuanced. They’re a french luxury brand.

They make your living space smell like a spa! I have a very high developed nose and taste buds… aromatherapy is an escential part of my relaxing rituals.
I have a stressfull job and when I come home I like it to smell like a spa. The escence from this candles are amazing and high quality ( for me is the difference from the green container “parmessan” and real parmessan cheese)
That being said…I live in a small apartment with carpet and I cook A LOT! I’ve found that candles from dyptique; missoni & malin & goetz makes the apartment smell wonderful even if I cooked calamari.
I dont know how to make candles, but I know how to cook! So I understand why you might be able to replicate these with $6 bucks.
I do the same with food. We rarely go to restaurants as I feel the same… why pay $45 for a plate I can prepare at home for $14?
Hope that helps!

Will this be available from a US store? Thanks.

I’ve never felt so pathetic, thanks advent calendars 2018!😅 Especially to la mer, price for few samples insulted me

OMG. Those boxes better be lined with gold inside. I guess these must be the Advent calendars that wives and daughters of CEO’s must get for Christmas, because these are not even realistic for most people. Welcome to what the 1% spends their money on.

And even then – only if you actually care about scented candles.
I’d rather spend my money on beauty items instead.

Lol! I’ve given up being mad about these prices and decided to sit back and read peoples reactions.

*yawns* Another overpriced calendar for sample sizes

I know Diptyque is not for everyone (not for me… My candle brand of choice is Voluspa) but people realize it’s a fancy af candle and perfume brand right? Their 70g candles retail for $35 each. All those candela combined are worth $280 despite being tiny. A set of 10 x 7mL travel size Diptyque fragrance sampler is $168 (so 7 x 10mL can be considered the same value…). If you’ve got some spare money and are a brand devotee this is a great present. Not every advent calendar has to be for the masses. My main criticism of the prices this year is that brands whose products don’t have these kinds of cult followings and are okay paying these prices are eager… But Diptyque is definitely an exception as is Net a Porter, luxe boxes etc. It’s disappointing there just are more at a more reasonable price point.

They are candles with a fancy name attached to it. They may be expensive and made in Paris but they are not that special enough to warrant a $350 price tag, in my opinion.
What I don’t get is companies throwing together a bunch of miniatures of their products, slapping an outrageous price on it, then expecting a consumer to buy it because it is a holiday advent calendar. If they want to do that, fine. But why not create smaller advent calendars (not gift sets) at a more affordable price point? I think more people would be willing to buy a calendar then. More people would be likely to try the products and they might become repeat costumers.

They might not be special to you, but Diptyque has the built in fanbase that would be interested. I think their candles are outrageously expensive, especially when I can get 2-5 premium candles for the same price as their small. If you don’t like them, fine! I don’t either. But that doesn’t mean other people don’t think so.
I don’t know Diptyqs have other gift sets — maybe? Probably? MSA is only posting the advent calendars though. I’m just offering a perspective that not every single advent calendar has to be for the masses. Just because MSA is posting it doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be for you or your budget point. It’s outrageous that ALL of them are this expensive, but I certainly don’t think this box’s price is out of the ordinary since it’s similar to last year’s for this brand.

Another one that is just absurd. They even say the sizes a re miniature.

This calendar was $390 last year — clearly they figured out that was too high of a price point.

Lol, yeah, $40 makes it all better 😉

But I’m bummed to see that there are no EDPs in here — they are a higher value item. There are also fewer items from their body and skincare line than last year — which makes me sad because I love that stuff!

Nope.
I like the idea of the advent calendar but all of these cost more than most actual gifts I can afford to give or get! And I always looked at these as something cute and stocking stuff esque. At $350 and $400 I’d rather gift myself and my husband a great night out or an appliance we’ll get enjoyment from vs deluxe samples no matter how great they smell.
To those that can afford it… enjoy!! This one should smell amazing!

Right??!
Prices just keep going up. Maybe we’ll see some great Black Friday sales, or after Christmas sales. But Christmas promises to be lean in my world. Whoever says the economy is getting better doesn’t live in my world, where prices keep rising and paychecks do not. Insurance goes up, take home pay goes down, prices go up, and my spending has to go down, no choice. And these “advent” boxes are crazy pricey!

Agreed Janet. My world hasn’t improved. I usually buy several advent calendars but this year they for the most part aren’t worth it!
