Ellie October 2018 Fitness Outfit Review
Here are the outfits Ellie offered this month. You can choose which outfit you'd like to receive (or opt to skip the month entirely) by the 4th of the month, or just let Ellie pick for you. I decided on the Think Pink outfit for this month. I'm not a huge fan of hot pink, but the leggings look very cool, so I decided to give it a go!
Here's my invoice for everything I received.
And here's my full outfit! (Yep, that headband came with it as part of the five-item box!)
Faded Hoodie
Ellie calls this "Faded Hoodie", but in my opinion, there's nothing faded about it! It's brighter-than-bright pink with a soft, jersey t-shirt quality to it. The sides have vented panels for increased breathability and a hood for chilly days. I don't find it terribly flattering, but I do think it's awfully comfortable, both for cold-weather jogs and snuggly Saturday mornings.
Slash Leggings
As I mentioned earlier, these leggings are why I signed up for this outfit. Lucky for me, they didn't disappoint! I found them really comfy (I'm a size 10-12 in jeans, and this size large was a great fit for me), though they don't stay put on my hips quite as well as other fitness subscription box styles I've tried. I LOVE the mesh panels, though. They provide plenty of breathability while, let's face it, looking pretty dang cool. I recently started doing roller derby (I know, right?!), and I feel all the more like a tough, superhero athlete when I'm wearing rad leggings like these ones on the rink!
Lily Sports Bra
Va-va-voom, am I right? This bra is definitely one of the sexier sports bras I've owned, thanks to its plunging shape and strappy details. It's surprisingly comfy and provides a decent amount of support, though I'd probably wear a tee or tank over it if I was going to the gym. But that's just me!
Solid Stretch Headband
I don't think it's the cutest look in the world, but wow is this headband going to come in handy! Headbands rarely like to stay put on my head but this wide style seems to hold tight. It's just snug enough that I'm not worried about the wind freezing my ears, but I'm also not uncomfortably warm.
Reflective Snap Armband
I don't do a ton of night running, but if you do, it's a good idea to have a reflective something-or-other on your person. That said, I'm not sold on this "snap" armband. The design is literally like a snap bracelet—there's a stiff plastic strip inside the main body of the band that snaps into a coil. There's also a Velcro strap that wraps around that coil for extra security. Problem is, that snap bracelet feature is only really handy if you wear the armband on your wrist. As you can see in the photo, it's doing a fair bit of digging into my arm pudge, which is... less than comfortable. And it's not really something you can adjust. (The end of the snap bracelet wants to curl in as much as it can, and if it's reaching around something too wide, it's just going to start digging!) Using it on my wrist isn't bad, but it's less easy to see. When I run, I usually have my hands/wrists tucked up in front of me, meaning only people coming towards me from the front would see my reflector. If it could live on my upper arm, folks behind me AND in front of me could see it.
Verdict: I found the clothing in this collection to be a solid fit and pretty nice quality. My only real gripe is with the armband, which isn't the most functional item. (Maybe I can find a way to snip the seams and get the slap part out of there...)
One thing that I didn't mention in the rest of the review which I think is pertinent to clarify—though this pink outfit comes out in the month of October, as far as I can tell, there's no connection to Pink October/Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The description for the outfit calls on you to "flex your femininity" and "feel the power of pink", but that's the extent of it. Maybe it's a coincidence that they included a pink outfit this month, and if it's not, I do appreciate that they wanted to support breast cancer awareness. But if it wasn't a coincidence, I personally I would've loved to see proceeds from this outfit going towards research or organizations supporting people living with the disease! But hey, it did remind me about Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I think I'll go make a donation of my own now <3
