Laurel & Reed October 2018 Review
The box opens to a handwritten welcome note from Natalie.
Next is the front of the info card which is a lovely print featuring palm trees against a colorful sky.
The four items are clearly listed out with retail prices and short descriptions.
Naked Bklyn Hydrating Post-Beach Face Serum, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $29.00
I've used this the past few days in the morning after cleansing and using toner. It's super duper light so it doesn't feel too greasy or oily at all. I squeeze out a couple of drops from the dropper onto my fingertips and lightly dab it around my face and allow it to sink in before adding my SPF moisturizer on top. Since the harsher weather is on its way, I'll be getting as much hydration to my face as possible and this one seems to be working great thus far. In addition to the light feel, it also smells delightful due to all of the oils like hempseed, grapeseed, guava seed, papaya seed, passion fruit seed, peach kernel, sweet grass, sandalwood, and palo santo.
Apothecary 90291 10 Degrees Cooler Reviving Eye Serum, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $60.00
I go back and forth about using eye serums since I end up getting these too close to my eyes and have a hard time sticking with them long enough to see visible results. Like the serum above, this one is also extremely delicate to match the skin around your eyes. It includes prickly pear oil that is supposed to help with dark circles (ahem, me), reparative Immortelle Oil, Camellia Oil for anti-aging, and Amaranth Oil which is "loaded with incredible flavonoids, such as rutin, that combine with collagen-boosting vitamin C to restore and strengthen capillary walls". I need SO little of this to lightly pat around the corners and underneath of my eyes. I've been using it both at night and in the morning in tandem with the facial serum. Hopefully, I can stick with this one and brighten up my eyes while combating my slight crows feet. 😉
Hurraw! Vata Lip Balm - Retail Value $4.29
Lip balms are normally not my favorite thing to get in subscription boxes, but I will usually give a pass to beauty boxes, especially if they are natural or organic. I have endless amounts of balms, so what makes this one different? Other than its oblong shape, I have to say that this formula is one of the things that sets this one apart. This "vata" variation is one of three balms that Hurraw! made based on basic Ayurvedic Dosha principles. It's made with "an herbal infusion of ashwagandha. The soothing almond scent is complimented with notes of spicy Guatemalan cardamom and finished off with a lovely lingering of Turkish rose.". Right off the bat, this felt velvety and soothing to put on my lips and I felt a subtle tingle (almost like cinnamon) from what I assume is the cardamom and I can get a faint whiff of the rose as well.
Glow Skincare Cold Roller - Retail Value $20.00
This is the product I was most excited to receive! The plastic handle has a large stainless steel roller on the end that can be rolled over any part of your skin (face and body included) to help reduce swelling or redness, reduce pores, and helps heal acne. They suggest keeping this in the fridge to make it extra chilly but I noticed that even at room temperature it's quite cooling. I've only used it for a few days now but it does feel really nice on my face. I run hot, so using this after a shower in the morning helps chill my skin out. Excited to see how this affects my skin long-term.
Verdict: While I didn't fall as deeply in love with this month's Laurel & Reed as I did with last month's, it's still a great box. I have never received a roller of any kind in a box thus far so I was happy to see this large stainless steel one to help with puffiness. The lip balm wasn't a huge draw but is rather nice as far as balms go, and the serums aren't particularly rare items for me to see in a box but come off as really luxurious as well as mostly organic.
