Lip Monthly October 2018 Review
This month's theme is “On a Bad Day There's Always Lipstick" and they included a note about how these colors will help keep our lips fresh as the weather gets cooler.
Each month, Lip Monthly sends their products in a little makeup bag. I love that it is a smaller bag, just a bit bigger than my iPhone plus (which doesn't fit inside) and has a soft material on the outside with this really fun Halloween theme with cobwebs, pumpkins, and candy. My 2-year-old actually stole it from me since the pictures of lollipops made him think that's what was inside!
Luna by Luna Queen Lip Oil - Retail Value $18
The packaging for this lip oil is so cute! I love lip oils and how hydrating they are and this one is pretty good, although it feels more glossy than the one I typically use. It says it provides a sheer hint of color, and it must be really sheer, because I didn't notice too much color on my lips, but I did like the way it made them look. I think this will be great to pair with a matte shade for some extra hydration.
Lord & Berry Lip and Cheek Crayon in Rose - Listed Value $15 (I couldn't find this exact pencil online but I linked to the one that looked closest!)
This crayon is a 'your lips but better' shade, for sure! I love this crayon and how it gives my lips just a bit of matte pink color. The staying power on this is great and I love that it only goes where I want it to since it's a crayon. It also doubles as a cheek crayon, although I think I'll probably just stick to this on my lips!
Here I paired it with the Luna Lip Oil to give it a glossy finish and make my lips feel a bit more hydrated. My favorite look from this month!
Bellapierre Holographic Lip Gloss in Jupiter - Listed Value $19.95
Look how shimmery and iridescent this color is! It feels very much like a fun pick for Halloween with the orange and gold colors and it has a slight fruity scent. I wasn't able to locate this lip gloss online anywhere and I'm not sure if I should be worried about that or not.
It wasn't as flashy on my lips as I thought it would be and I like the way the shimmer seems to accentuate my bottom lip making it appear fuller. If I rub it into my lips I can achieve an even more subtle effect which is nice, but it is pretty sticky and if applied too thickly it quickly spreads outside the lines of my lips. It doesn't really have the feel of a $20 gloss to me.
Lip Monthly Lipstick in 02 - Listed Value $16
I was almost prepared to write this off immediately with its very vibrant orange color, but I actually kind of dig it! It's way different than what I would normally wear, but it's so perfect for the fall and a Halloween themed bag. I couldn't locate it on their site, so I'm guessing it's an exclusive color. This goes on fairly smooth and wears down pretty nicely, but it's a bit thin and almost greasy feeling. It will do for a fun pop of color, but definitely not a formula I'd want to wear every day.
Swatches from top to bottom, Luna by Luna Oil, Bellapierre gloss, Lip Monthly lipstick, and Lord & Berry crayon.
Verdict: I liked the Halloween vibe I got from this month's Lip Monthly delivery. It irks me a bit that I couldn't locate three of the four items online though (although somewhat more understandable with the Lip Monthly exclusive). I do like that they send a variety of lip products each month and I'm really happy with the Lord & Berry Lip Crayon. I'll definitely use the lip oil, but the two orange products will probably only be used occasionally which is fine with me since the lip crayon was worth the cost of the box alone. I had to go by the listed value for most of the items and I came up with a total of $68.95 which is much higher than the $12.95 cost of the box. While I think a few items might have somewhat inflated values, if you just take the average for the four items, you get $3.34 per product which is definitely more than fair.
