The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from Appraising Pages, which is now called The Bookish Shop. This month is the first time I've gotten the box in a shipping envelope rather than a literal box. It's super cute!
Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only—no actual books involved. Recently, though, they changed up their game and added several subscription varieties to choose from, including one that does have a book inside!
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
This review is of the Bookish Shirt & Goodies Box, which is $29.99 a month + shipping.

The Bookish Box Subscription Box "Rebels at Sea" September 2018 Review
Here's the info card for this month's box. Note that they list out every item that you could get with the subscription (including add-ons). In my subscription box, I got everything in the top section plus the shirt.
There's a card for a photo challenge, too!
Calendar Card
On the flip side of the photo challenge info is this calendar card for the month of October. I love the Hocus Pocus reference and the spooky black and red color scheme.
Patterned Socks
The first pair of these socks designed by Instagram user @kimcarlika are an obvious nod to The Little Mermaid, but I'm not sure whether the octopus pair is referencing anything! The designs are cute, but I wish they were knit into the socks rather than just printed on the tops of them. As the stitching stretches, the images split and look faded.
Very Berry Tea by Beantown Beans and Spices - Estimated Value $1.55
I'm pretty sure this package constitutes what Beantown Beans considers its "sample size", which they price at $1.55. I'd say there's enough here for about 3-5 cups of tea. If you can't tell by the deep ruby red color of the loose leaf tea, the flavor is rich and bold. It includes rose hips, hibiscus, cranberries, natural forest berries flavor and blueberries, so it's both earthy and sweet.
Mermaid Straw
I've been growing my collection of stainless steel straws so I always have one handy, whether I'm on the go, at the office, or hanging out at home. The fact that this straw has an iridescent rainbow finish makes me all the more eager to use this reusable, eco-friendly tool!
Mermaid Spoon
There's a spoon to match the straw, too! It's got a cute mermaid cutout on the top end, and it's shaped in a way that lets it hang on the edge of my mug. It's great for stirring honey into tea!
Sticker
This sticker is a little over 2" long and has a vibrant, high-res quality to it. The illustration is by Instagram user @dianadworak and depicts a character from A Gathering of Shadows.
Collector's Enamel Pin
This boat in a bottle design was created by Dust & Pages and inspired by A Gathering of Shadows. I like the crisp edges and bright red accents of this pin. Apparently there's a message hidden in the waves. Shadows fans—can you tell what it is?
Second Star to the Right String Lights Kit
These lights are so cute! I love that they include mini clothespins to hold the lights in place. Better yet, the cord is controlled by a battery operated pack—no need to plug it in!
Peter Pan T-Shirt
I love the slate blue hue of this month's shirt. The adventurous quote from Peter Pan is cute, too! The tees you can get from this subscription definitely set it apart, just because the designs are always so unique.
The Verdict: Quick observation! The info card mentioned a "Doodle Print", which is a monthly black and white coloring-book-style drawing that I'm used to receiving with each box. Unfortunately, I didn't get one! It's not the biggest value item in the box for me, but I missed it nonetheless. I think this box would be a great pick for a teen or tween, given the types of items you receive and the quality of those items. They're pretty consistent with how they mix new series with classic stories, so there's always at least one or two things subscribers should recognize. I definitely recommend opting for the t-shirt, though—if they match your teen/tween's style, I'd say they're a neat way to represent favorite books/movies with styles other kids aren't likely to have!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Sign up now to get the upcoming box!
Value Breakdown: This box costs $37.49 after shipping, meaning that the average price of each of the 10 featured items via the subscription is $4.17.
