Wicks + Words Harry Potter Inspired Deluxe Story Box #3 Review

To start the experience you are greeted with a collectible story card, which tells a bit of the story of your chosen fandom and setting the mood for the featured candles.

On the back of the card is the info sheet detailing the products included.

Headmaster Albus Dumbledore Soy Candle, 9 oz

Headmaster Albus Dumbledore Soy Candle, 9 oz – Estimated Value $14 (based on other candles found here)

Professor Dumbledore’s namesake candle smells like lemongrass, lime, and musk, and I find the overall scent to be very refreshing. Once I lit it I felt like the scent brightened up my apartment, which can get dreary quickly now that winter is coming.

Professor Severus Snape Soy Candle, 9 oz – Estimated Value $14 (based on other candles found here)

Who knew Snape smelled so sexy? This candle has scent notes of sandalwood, musk, and violet, and it reminds me of a nice men’s cologne! I was a little disappointed that once lit, this candle didn’t really throw scent like I was hoping it would.

Professor Minerva McGonagall Soy Candle, 4 oz – Estimated Value $7 (based on other candles found here)

This candle is scented with Violet, Apple, and Peach, and it is a rather sweet scent for the usually stern Professor McGonagall. This is what I imagine her robes smelled like when she comforted Professor Trelawney in The Order of The Phoenix. This candle was perfect to keep on my desk while I studied, and I was happy with how the fragrance would waft towards me.

Hogwarts Crest Coffee Mug, 11 oz – Estimated Value $10 (based on other mugs found here)

This mug is the perfect size for a nice and big cup of tea, and I like the artwork showing a symbol for each of the seven books in the series. The blue handle and blue inner part of the mug make this a touch more stylish than your regular mug, too.

Snape Funko POP! – Estimated Value $7 (based on information found here)

I know people collect Funkos, but this is my first experience with one! I find it rather adorable, but I do wonder where the box went for this little guy.

The Serene Life Mini Lavender and Vanilla Bath Bomb – Estimated Value $1.67 (buy a six-pack of mini bath bombs for $10)

This little guy is delicately scented with lavender and vanilla, and I found it to be a very comforting blend. This would be perfect in a bath right before bed, maybe with some lavender Epsom salt, to send you off to sweet dreams.

The Verdict: One of my favorite ways to relax is with a good book, a candle burning, and a nice mug of hot tea. Wicks + Words provided everything except the book, but I am sure it comes as no surprise that I own the entire Harry Potter series both in hard copies and digitally. I really enjoyed the packaging and creativity displayed with this box, and it was fun using these limited edition candles to try and dig deeper in my Harry Potter experience. Value-wise, Wicks + Words promises a value of $50 in every box, and by my math, the total estimated value this month is $53.67.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Your subscription would start with the November box if you signed up after October 13, but you can purchase this box as a one-off here.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $40.65 ($32 + $8.65 shipping), and I calculated a value of $53.67. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Dumbledore Candle: $10.60
  • Snape Candle: $10.60
  • McGonagall Candle: $5.30
  • Hogwarts Mug: $7.57
  • Snape Funko: $5.30
  • Bath Bomb: $1.26

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Would it be possible for an ” Outlander” fan reviewer to review that box? I DIE over Jamie and Claire.. It’s a love affair that started over 25 years- when ” Outlander” was first published.
I lost a boyfriend because I lay on the beach and read the book straight through instead of frolicking in a very nasty looking ocean. I don’t regret a thing!

I would have thought Dumbledore’s scent would be more sweet than McGonagall’s considering his love of candy (the passwords for his office)!

Lol, I used to write/read Snape fanfiction and almost every single one I came across picked “Sandalwood” as Snape’s signature scent. I’m not a fan of musk though, so unfortunately I don’t think his candle or Albus’ would be a hit for me despite liking the other scents. Love the Pop, though!
