Geek Gear World of Wizardry September 2018 Review
In each box from Geek Gear, you’ll find a handy booklet listing all of the products inside! In addition to the products, you will also find a clue for an item in next month’s box and a “Subscriber Spotlight” featuring a community member.
Recipes: Steak and Kidney Pie with Buttered Peas and Wizardry Fondant Cookies
This month, the recipes were a bit off for me – and both ones that I probably would never make. Steak and Kidney Pie? Sorry – you lost me at the “200g Lamb Kidneys” – I’m not into organ meat. The second recipe is for basic butter cookies with elaborate fondant decorations. These recipes are exclusively created by whereismyspoon.co and although these were a miss for me, some of their other recipes might not be as “wizard” friendly but look to be totally my speed.
Exclusive “Design a Wand Competition Winner” Want – Listed Price $15.28 (£11.99)
This 13.5” want is made of chestnut wood and has a powerful phoenix feature core just like some of the most famous Witches and Wizards of all time! I think it’s pretty cool that an actual members design was selected and manufactured to be included in this box – and I’ve always thought Phoenix birds were pretty awesome! I’m not sure if I’ll give this to my toddler son to play with, or if I will use it in my garden and a decorative yard stake.
Exclusive Broomstick Figure – Listed Price $19.10 (£14.99)
This collector's piece is 20 cm in length and made from a durable resin. I think it's a perfect subtle addition to my Halloween décor and will be using it for years to come as a nod to witches during this fun time of year! Congrats Julia S. for being selected as the winner, well done!
Exclusive Fantastic Beats Print – Listed Price $6.36 (£4.99)
This Fantastic Beats print is just in time for the release of the latest installment Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindewald and features a symbolic Gellert Grindelwald image. Although it's fractionally larger than a standard 8" x 11" frame, I would probably trim down the edges and use one anyway.
Exclusive Wizardry House Beanie – Listed Price $12.73 (£9.99)
I received the bird version of this beanie, but there are three other varieties featuring various fantastic beast related images. This item is a little more “manly” that I typically wear, so I’ll likely give this one to my husband who often wears beanies (and is quite the HP / FB fan!). It feels to be a good quality cotton beanie, although it doesn’t have any tags or indications on what material is it made from. It is one size fits all, and will easily stretch to adapt to the size of your noggin.
Exclusive Wizardry T-shirt – Listed Price $15.28 (£11.99)
I love this T-shirt for Halloween! It depicts an iconic castle framed in the moonlight, with a witch flying on a broom in the night sky. It is screen printed on a Gildan soft style 100% cotton T-shirt.
Verdict: This was a really fun box! I think that my favorite item was the T-shirt, but I can get use out all the items. I've already added the broom to my Halloween décor and wore the T-shirt to some Saturday Halloween activities with my son. If wizardry is your thing, I think the value is there – especially due to the exclusive private label nature of the merchandise included in this subscription.
