Betty Boomerang "The Great Outdoors" Review

Upon signing up, subscribers fill in a very brief questionnaire that asks whether they want male, female, or surprise items. It also asks what breed of retro style they are into, such as Scandi, Kitschy, Atomic, etc. This leads me to believe that packages may differ by subscriber. This is the information booklet that was included in my package. It lists out the items and why they were included. This month's theme is The Great Outdoors!

Betty Boomerang Subscription Box Review October 2018 - Extra Items Front

These smaller items were included in my package, and I'm not 100% sure if they are just extras, or if they count as the "Social Share Bonus Item" listed as $5 value on the booklet. I am thinking maybe the Dirty/Clean magnet is the bonus item. It is so funny, and perfect for the washing machine!

Outdoor Cooking With Betty - Retail Value $15.99 (found here for $10.49)

This is so cool! The illustrations and photos in this book are amazing. Surprisingly, I think many of the recipes in this cookbook would still hold up just fine today. I hope so! My family does a good bit of camping, and it will be fun to have new things to try out.

Catsup and Mustard Squeeze Bottles - Listed Value $6.99/set

Wow, I can't remember the last time I saw these! I feel like I saw them all the time when I was a little kid. These are perfect for a picnic and so retro!

Route 66 Prints by Spotlight Artist, Stefanie Poteet (set of 3) - Listed Value $18

These prints are just gorgeous! They are beautiful, and sad in a way, as they represent a bygone and disappearing era. The back of the information booklet has some information on the artist, Stefanie Poteet, and her work. She is driven to capture signs and relics from the golden era of the American road trip. It's pretty interesting stuff.

Betty Boomerang Subscription Box Review October 2018 - State Map Tablecloth by Red and White Kitchen 1 FrontBetty Boomerang Subscription Box Review October 2018 - State Map Tablecloth by Red and White Kitchen 2 Front

State Map Tablecloth by Red and White Kitchen - Retail Value $33.19, Listed Value $30

This tablecloth is huge! I could not even get all of it in one picture! The tablecloth is 58" x 72" and printed on a high-quality cotton linen. I absolutely love the graphics, even the font is just perfect. It has a map of the United States with lots of popular tourist destinations listed. This also works really well with the theme - I can totally see it laid out on a picnic table. So cute!

The Verdict; This was my first package from Betty Boomerang, and I was impressed! The items were really fun and very true to the mid-century retro aesthetic. I also think the value is pretty good at $56 shipped for $79.17 worth of goods. I guess my only hesitation with this particular box is that the theme, while really fun, doesn't lend itself to home decor items. Looking at some of the items from past boxes, I think a new subscriber might be a little disappointed to not receive items that would work in the home (not outside of the home like these). Otherwise, this was a really cool box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive January's box. Sign up by the 10th of each month to get that month's box.

I subscribed to Betty Boomerang about six weeks ago. My second box shipped today, and I received an email with the following information at the bottom of the email, “Note that Betty is not curating any new boxes, but new subscribers are welcome to experience up to 1 year of our best “parcels from the past.” If you joined the Betty family after September 2019, any pre-paid boxes will still ship and you will be given the option to continue to renew.”

The dirty/clean magnet is definitely for dishwashers. My grandma used to knit some and sell them in craft shows decades ago. After she passed I gave a bunch of leftovers we found to my friends and they all loved them. One of those things you didn’t even know you needed!

We have a dirty/clean magnet my mom stitched for us for our dishwasher. A must for a busy household!

The Dirty/Clean magnet is for the dishwasher.

Yep. My grandma used to cross-stitch or knit magnets like that and sell them in craft shows decades ago. After she passed away, we found a bunch in her stash and I gave them away to all of my friends….who loved them. Some things never go out of “style.” 😉

I’ve been a Betty subscriber for over a year now and I love it more with every box I get. The box has a theme each time that is SO well planned out and beautiful. So much attention to detail.

This isn’t the end of the world, but Eugene, OR is not that far north in the state, which now has me curious if other cities aren’t quite situated correctly on that map.

Funny the things we pick up on. First thing I noticed was one of the cacti in New Mexico. We don’t have saguaro cactus here.

Lauren, thanks for the chuckle! As someone who drives from Roseburg to Portland on a regular basis, I wish Eugene was that close to PDX! I’ve seen this on cloth type maps for years now. Not the end of the world, just a curiosity. Won’t keep my state dish towel in the glovebox for reference. 😂 Love the tablecloth and this looks like a fun sub!

Yeah, look at where Seattle is, not even close!

Jolene

If you look on a regular map Eugene is directly under Portland. It looks correct to me.

Haha! I’m at least glad that Eugene rated a place on this map…even though it’s not located accurately. Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home! ✌🌼

The dirty clean magnet would be great for dishwasher.

I need that clean/dirty magnet in my life! Also, I usually scoff at some of the prints added to sub boxes, but those are super cool!
