Cover FX is a makeup company that is vegan, cruelty-free, and free of parabens and mineral oil. You may have seen their products in Boxycharm, too! Recently, they offered two mystery boxes- a 5-piece set and a 6-piece set.

This is a review of the 5-piece mystery set in the shade Light.

FYI - This box is still available for purchase!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cover FX Mystery Bag Review

This box did come with a makeup bag, but it wasn’t counted as one of the 5 items. I think this bag is high-quality and will stand up to being used and abused, which is exactly what I need.

It is nice and spacious, with enough room for all of the products included and more.

Custom Enhancer Drops in Rose Gold, Full-Size! Retail Value $42

Since this was the spoiled item for the bag I thought I would start here. In short: I love it! I have tried this product line before, and I love the versatility plus the SHINE of these enhancer drops. Rose gold is a true rose god with a high-shine metallic finish and it can be mixed with your foundation, worn as a highlighter, or even as an eyeshadow. A tiny drop goes a long way so this full-size bottle should last a while, and once it sets it doesn’t really budge (if you apply as an eyeshadow, let it dry before opening your eyes to prevent creasing).

Shimmer Veil in Moonstone, Full-Size! Retail Value $28

The shimmer veil product line features a crease-proof cream to powder finish that can be used anywhere, but most people will probably be using them as eyeshadows. I have to say, this may be my favorite item in the box! Moonstone is described as a shimmer topaz and it adds the perfect touch of color and lots of sparkle to your eye look. I love reaching for shimmery and sparkly eyeshadows to really make my blue eyes pop, and I will be reaching for this a lot in the coming months (so many holiday looks!).

Blurring Primer,

Blurring Primer, Full-Size! Retail Value $38

I have tried this before, and it is a best-selling primer for a reason! It is super lightweight on your skin and is designed to help your skin looked airbrushed. I think this primer is best under light-to-medium coverage foundation so you can see this primer in action, but if you go full-coverage this will help your makeup stay in place.

Glitter Drops in Mirage, 0.095 oz – Estimated Value $8.36 (buy the full-size version for $44)

These glitter drops are like the enhancer drops in that they can be mixed with almost any beauty product to achieve your best look, and they also can be used on their own for some show-stopping glitter. Mirage is a gorgeous golden champagne glitter that would be stunning used on the center of your lid in a halo eyeshadow look. My only complaint is that my dropper is a bit defective- it is very loose and feels like the plastic tube is going to disconnect from the top at any moment. Since it is only a sample I didn’t think it was worth reaching out to their customer service (and the full-size products don’t have this issue!).

Here is the glitter drops swatched below the enhancer drops and the shimmer veil.

Perfect Setting Powder in Light, 0.035 oz – Estimated Value $3.50 (buy the full-size version for $35)

There was a lot of speculation as to what product would be included that necessitated us choosing Light or Medium at checkout, and I think this setting powder is a perfect product while still needing a shade specification. It was hard to try this powder out in the tiny container, so I ended up dumping some out on clean tissue before swirling my brush in it to set my foundation.

Here is the look I did using these products. I started by priming my skin with the blurring primer, then I mixed the enhancer drops with my foundation to give my skin a lit-from-within glow. I used the shimmer veil over most of my eyelid with the glitter drops at the inner corners, and I also used the glitter drops on my cupids bow and under the arch of my eyebrow. I finished with a coat of mascara and Stila liquid lipstick in Patina Shimmer (from the Birchbox Holiday Favorites Lip set - review coming soon!). I loved the end result!

The Verdict: The folks over at Cover FX are smart—this is a great mystery box! I think it was smart making the setting powder a sample rather than a full-size, and Cover FX’s promised value for this box only includes the values of the full-size products. I am excited that I got almost everything I need for a full face of makeup while embracing my love of shimmer, shiny, and sparkly things. Value-wise, this box has a total value of $119.86, which I think is a great deal for a high-quality makeup brand (and it's above the promised retail value, too).

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this mystery bag is still available!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $50 with free shipping and I calculated a value of $119.86. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Makeup Bag: n/a
  • Enhancer Drops: $17.52
  • Shimmer Veil: $11.68
  • Blurring Primer: $15.85
  • Glitter Drops: $3.49
  • Setting Powder: $1.46

What do you think of the Cover FX 5-piece mystery bag?

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Jessica,
After seeing what you got in your mystery bundle, I did some checking around to look for spoilers on the $75 mystery bag. The only one I found, listed the same sample size setting powder (I also chose light), the same moonstone veil, the full size rose gold custom enhanced drops, full size aurora glitter drops (that I have been dying to get, so this sealed the deal), the full size primer, and the gold bar palette (it’s on sale so if I also get everything the other lady got who listed her items, the value is actually $192 instead of $172. It looks like they counted it at sale value which was pretty cool of them!). Finally, and this is the best part in my opinion, right now if you spend $50+, you get a full size celestial custom enhancer drops as well! Although the bundles do not quality for the 25% off they are also offering sitewide, this more than made up for the difference! Here’s to hoping that I get the same items the other woman got! I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get the aurora drops honestly…. it was that, the free celestial drops, and the gold bar that made this too good to pass up, especially since now I can return the conver FX sample set that I spent $42 on that gave me quarter sized samples (of regular size bottles) of rose gold, celestial, mirage, and aurora. once I return the sample set and get my $42 back, if I get same items as the other woman, I will be paying just $38 more (amount with taxes is $80) for 3 out of 4 of those drop shades in full size versions along with all those other items (3 more full sized and the sample size)! Thrilled right now. I hope I’m not the only one who got chance to take advantage of this offer! $80 for $234 worth of high end cover FX products seems amazing to me!

Seems like almost everything from past boxycharm boxes besides the setting powder. But haven’t dabbled much in cover fx so I’m not sure of what’s in the rest of their line or how big it is

For some reason I thought the Shimmer Veil was a powder product and I’ve never used the one I have. Now that I see what it actually is I need to dig it out and play with it. Yay!!

I love it! I got it from Boxy also and use it on my eyelids. It’s so pretty! It is wet, at first. So, I use it when I’m almost done and then close my eyes and fan my face. lol

Hmm, I was hoping for a full size setting powder but I guess I might hop on to that unfluenster box to check out the LM one. Seems like a pretty good product deal. I was excited for that highlighter but less so for the glitter, but I’ve got a friend who will go crazy for it 🙂 I used the 20% off code and got a 2 cover clicks for only 4 dollars extra. Wished I had tacked a click stick on though, but thought it might show up in this review. Oh well! Still excited!

The LM one from the influenster box isn’t full-sized either, just FYI. 🙂
