Degustabox November 2018 Review

This month Degustabox updated their look with a new box design! Fancy!

Degustabox always has a really nice info sheet that goes over each item included in the box with their retail values. This month's theme is "Lunchbox".

The back is different each month. November has a word search!

They've also thrown in a coupon for Pop Corners, one of the brands featured this month.

Popcorn, Indiana Black & White Drizzle Corn, 6 oz. - Retail Value $2.68

You know what's better than regular popcorn? Popcorn with white and dark chocolate drizzled all over it! It's actually Kettlecorn, which I usually hate because I like my popcorn buttery and salty, but this just changes the whole snack into a sweet instead of savory one with all the chocolate. This is a pretty full-size bag that I can choose to share or devour myself. Guess which one I'll do?

Pearson's Coconut Patties Minis, 3.5 oz. - Buy an 8 oz. bag for $7.96

Mmmmm I love coconut, especially when it's mixed with chocolate in some way. These remind me of mini bite-size Mounds. They're made with real coconut and 66% cacao dark chocolate. These super sweet treats are perfect for my after-dinner snack when I need a little sweetness.

Pearson's Mint Patties, 4 oz. - Buy a 12 oz. bag for $2.38

So much chocolate already in this box and we've barely scratched the surface. The third item is also by Pearson's but features mint with the chocolate. Another winning combination. These are a little larger than the coconut ones and come individually wrapped so you can toss a couple in your purse or car for when you need a little cooling sweetness. So delish!

Bauducco Mini Panettone, 3.53 oz. - Buy 6 for $18.39

Fruitcake gets a bad name for whatever reason, but this traditional Italian cake has a lot of history and takes 52 hours to make (says the info sheet). This baked good is golden but still moist on the inside and full of dried fruit to give it some natural sweetness. This makes the perfect companion to coffee or tea after a large holiday meal or to get you started before entertaining. It's actually quite good and I'd be tickled to receive this at the holidays instead of an ugly sweater.

Grand Belgian Specialties Assorted Pralines, 7.9 oz. - Listed Retail Value $6.99

My my my- just when I thought the sweets were done! I've never gotten an entire box of chocolates in recent memory from a subscription box and it had be saying "heck yea!". 16 assorted chocolates are here, straight from Belgium to make my mouth water. There's a guide at the side so I don't bite into anything I don't like. Truth be told, my roommate devoured most of these once I brought them home, but I did get a few of them before they were gone and am happy to report that they were scrumptious!

Bush's Best Original Bean Dip, 9.5 oz. - Buy a case of 12 similar for $23.88

I'm actually happy to see a savory item come forth after so much sugar! I love eating tortilla chips and this pinto bean dip will give me the excuse I need to get them into my body. I'm pretty lazy but this ready to open container can also serve those who are simply just busy and need to get a snack out to a group of people. Just pop the lid and scoop the dip into a microwave safe container to heat up and your crew can get to dippin'. I think I'd like to add some cheese to top this as well.

PopCorners Kettlecorn Snacks, 0.5 oz. x4 - Buy 2, 5 oz. bags for $9.42

More Kettle Corn snacks! I want to dislike these because I will always choose savory in the form of a chip but I can't stop eating these. Degutsabox sent 4 small half ounce bags which is kind of fun so if I had kids I could use these to pack their lunches with. I'll probably share them with my coworkers though instead. These light airy triangular chips are made with just 4 ingredients: yellow corn, sunflower oil, can sugar, and sea salt. They're crispy and easy to eat and each of the small bags is 60 calories so they help with portion control. Yum.

Chickpea Organic Chickpea Lentil Mac & Cheese in Classic Cheddar, 6 oz. - Buy similar (linked) for $3.66

Mac n Cheese is a staple in my pantry, but I don't think I've ever tried a Chickpea Lentil variety before. I've certainly seen chickpea pasta in the past, perhaps even in this subscription, but I don't recall cheese getting involved. The box says that it has 10g more protein, 6g more fiber, and 65mg less sodium than the average Mac n Cheese box. It's also certified organic, so when I go to add my tuna fish and broccoli to this later, I can feel extra healthy!

Wholesome Goodness Tuxedo Mix, 1.25 oz. - Buy a 12 ct for $10.69

Now that it's cooler out, my body will allow me to go on more hikes and be outdoors more than when it's blazing hot. A little snack pack like this is the perfect thing to take on a little hike to reenergize halfway through. This mix contains yogurt covered raisins and peanuts, dark chocolate covered soy nuts, and roasted peanuts for the ultimate sweet n savory mix. I'm sensing that as a bit of theme this month, are you? This pack is also gluten-free and has 5g of protein per serving (this pack is 1.25 servings). Very tasty!

Nutiva Coconut Oil, 0.16 oz. - 3 varieties

The last group of items we have is three different kinds of Nutiva coconut oils. The info sheet says this is a gift which makes me feel better about them since each is quite small. There's the "Buttery Flavor", "Virgin", and "Refined" each in a single serving packet, ready to rip open and use. The buttery one will be perfect for making popcorn!

Verdict: Degustabox had a heavy snacky, sweet-n-savory vibe this month. While I prefer to get more pantry items and less sweet items, this was still nice for a holiday season. If you were traveling for turkey day, you'd have a lot to snack on this month.

I don’t know what box I got but the only thing the same in mine was the Belgium chocolates. They were AAAAAAAHHHHHHMAZING! OMG! I ate the whole (16-18 pieces) in 2.5 days. I’d buy these again. Some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had. And a whole box too!? SCORE! As for the rest of mine (which I got at the beginning of Dec), I got tea (yuck and I’m a tea drinker), weird hot sauce, chicken seasoning (looks good), orange & ginger chews (yuck. I hate ginger), 2 small bags of cheddar & caramel popcorn (yum), a healthy chocolate bar (kinda gross), a protein bar (just so so), marshmallows (🤦🏼‍♀️), and a small bag of cinnamon cookies. Not a bad box but I’d have liked what is shown here.

Degusta sucked me back in with an offer to return and I was pretty pleased. I wasn’t 100% on board with the heavy sweets month, but those chocolates–omg. I loved them. Such interesting flavors too. Definitely not your typical box of choc.

I liked the bean dip–but there wasn’t anything included to eat them with.

I’m still on the fence about doing it now that my son is living in his own apartment. We used to split the boxes but without him at home, I end up eating way too much. I’ll keep an eye on it though and see whether I want to start it back up.

I actually really don’t care for the kettle corn variety of Popcorners but it is ALL I EVER GET in food boxes. They have other flavors and I would probably like the other flavors.

Great box! OK Degustabox I’ll try you again. I was a big fan in the past and a long term subscriber, but they went down hill. This box and December both look great. Hope springs infernal.

Interesting mix this month. Bean dip to drown out your chocolate fix! Just throw in some beer and I will be all set.
