Fair Trade Friday is an organization that helps to empower women and battle poverty through dignified, sustainable industry (craftsmanship). They have three subscriptions to choose from that send fairly traded items from around the world: The Original Box, Bracelet of the Month, and Earrings of the Month. I have subscribed to the Earring of the Month box for years now, and I am really excited to have this opportunity to review the Original Box!

October 2018 Fair Trade Friday Original Box “Gratitude” Review
This booklet is included every month, and it has nice details about the items and the artisans who created them. This month's theme is Gratitude, of course!
"Give Thanks" Embroidery Hoop by Our Legacy, Ukraine - Listed Value $24
Definitely more than $24 worth of work went into this embroidery hoop, and I appreciate the sentiment for sure. But, this is not really my style. I can't think of anything I would possibly do with this, aside from what I will do, which is gift it to someone who might like it. I think it would be a pretty Thanksgiving decoration in the right home.
Gratitude Notepad, USA - Listed Value $5
This is actually post-it notes, not a notebook, and not all that many of them at that. I think these are nice for the Thanksgiving season, and I plan to try and remember to use all of them this month on the people I am grateful for! Fun! But there is no way this is worth $5.
Brass Diamond Fan Fringe Necklace by Have Hope, Kenya - Retail Value $24
It is true that I have been getting tired of threaded tassel jewelry and have been lamenting it for months now, but I have to admit, I kind of like this necklace. It's just the right length to draw attention without drawing the wrong kind of attention. The diamond is made of recycled brass made from old bicycles! I think the design is really cool, and Have Hope is a great charity. They provide training and skilled work for impoverished women in Kenya.
The Verdict: I am loving my subscription to Fair Trade Friday Original Box! This month was not my favorite, but the necklace kind of redeemed it for me. I do like to reflect on things I am grateful for, so I appreciate the theme, I am just not a huge fan of the execution this month. I also like all the information they provide to show how your subscription directly impacts the lives of others. It makes the subscription seem that much more special.
To Wrap Up:
If I subscribe today, can I still receive this box? No. In order to receive the box of the month, you must subscribe before the 24th of the previous month.
Value Breakdown: This box cost $33 shipped. It included three items, so the average cost per item is $11. The total suggested retail for all items is $53, which means the savings on this box is 38%!
