Pinecone Tote

This pinecone tote is MASSIVE, and I absolutely love it. It would make a great bag to carry to the farmers market, but it is also big enough to store a rolled up blanket in your living room for a touch of fall home décor. I like that it can stand up on its own, as it really adds to the numerous possible ways of using this tote.

Fruit For Thought Box October 2018 - Room Spray Front

Michel Design Works Pumpkin Melody Room Spray, 3 oz – Retail Value $10.99

A lot of this box focuses on tasting the autumn spice, but this room spray helps to make sure you can smell it too! The scent notes include warm pumpkin with apple, cinnamon, and a drop of vanilla, and the end result is a slightly sweet and warm, welcoming scent. The cute fall leaves packaging on this spray means I don’t have to hide it in a cupboard, either- I can leave it on an end table and have the yummy scent within reach.

Fruit For Thought Box October 2018 - Carrot Cake Jam With Cookie

All American Canning Carrot Cake Jam, 2 oz – Buy an 8 oz jar for $9

This carrot cake jam is so tasty—it tastes just like carrot cake, but I mean that in the best way possible. It had little pieces of carrots that added a nice texture contrast, and the cinnamon and nutmeg spices were delightfully prominent. This with some cream cheese on a cracker would be the perfect match. I also love how unique of an item this is to include in a monthly box—I don’t think I have gotten jam before!

Fruit For Thought Box October 2018 - Harvest Fruit Dip MIx Unpacked Front

Terra Americana Harvest Fruit Dip Mix, 0.6 oz

This dip mix is made with bittersweet cocoa powder, cane sugar, brown sugar, orange, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I think it would be super tasty to dip a fresh apple slice in this dip mix, and I like that it can be made with yogurt instead of whipped cream for a healthier alternative. This would be a great snack pairing with a drink made with the booze infuser also included in the box!

Erin Bakers Low Fat Breakfast Cookie in Pumpkin Spice – Buy a box of 12 for $19.99

Erin Bakers Low Fat Breakfast Cookie in Caramel Apple – Buy a box of 12 for $19.99

These breakfast cookies came in the flavors Pumpkin Spice and Caramel Apple. The pumpkin is baked with fresh pumpkin puree and ginger, nutmeg, and cloves, while the Caramel Apple is baked with dried apple, caramel, and whole grain oats! The cookies themselves were very soft and the flavor was tasty but not super strong. I am not crazy about how carb heavy this is for a breakfast replacement, but I think half of one with some type of protein would be a tasty and well-balanced breakfast!

Orange Spice Booze Infuser, 0.28 oz – Retail Value $6.95

This is such a unique thing that I haven’t seen before—it is a flavor infuser for your alcohol! Orange spice is made with orange peel and warm baking spices and this one infuser can flavor a 750 mL bottle of booze! This would be a great touch to a Thanksgiving for adult beverages, but I bet this could also be infused with Apple cider for some “mocktails,” too.

Fruit For Thought Box October 2018 - Lollies By Leah Front

Fruit For Thought Box October 2018 - Lollies By Leah Front Closer

Lollies by Leah, 3 lollies – Total Retail Value $4.50 ($1.50 each)

I received three lollies in the flavors Red Hot Apple Cider, Pumpkin Bun in the Oven, and Pump Me Up. These flavors were a fun twist on typical lollipops, with flavor descriptions like “pumpkin caramel marshmallow latte” and “pumpkin cinnamon roll with marshmallow topping,” but I found the overall texture of the lollipops to be a bit sticky rather than the hard as glass lollipop texture I prefer—I wouldn’t feel comfortable chomping down on these without fear of hurting my teeth.

The Verdict: Fruit for Thought continues to be a joy to receive every month! I am always greeted with thoughtful curation and great, useful items. The Full-size box costs $49.94 a month ($44.99 plus $4.95 shipping) and I couldn’t find a value for most of the items, but I still believe the value for the money is there. I really love the tote bag included this month, and I also appreciate that we were able to see, smell, and taste the autumn spice theme throughout the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the November box (which is Soda Pop themed!).

Value Breakdown: This box costs $44.99 + $4.95 shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box (counting multiples as one) has an average cost of $7.13.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

While this box is lovely to look at and has some great items it is extremely overpriced. You could go to any “discount” store i.e. TJ Maxx, Home Goods etc. and spend a lot less and pick flavors that you wanted. For example that $10.99 room spray can be had for $2.99 in many scents.

The ingredients of the fruit dip here, and the one on their site is different. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, coriander and orange oil are the ingredients here.

Bittersweet cocoa, cane sugar, brown sugar, orange, cinnamon and nutmeg is listed on their site.

Both sound good to me!

I’d love to sub to this one day, the curation is great, but the price is too high.
The carrot jam and the tote are my favs in this months box.

There is a mini box for $31.99 if you want to start at a lower price

This really is a great sub- while it may not be high value retail-wise (compared to some beauty boxes), the themes are fun and often include unique items that are useful and/or tasty! It’s one of my favorite boxes every month and the customer service is top!

You can buy the bag on Amazon for $14 if you search DEI Pinecone Jute Tote. I calculated a value of approx $43 for the box which is under what you pay for it. I really think sub boxes should deliver over the promised value, otherwise I would just pick out items on my own.

Bonnie

I agree…when there’s a promised value. I have never seen Fruit for Thought promise a value. I had been a very loyal subscriber for quite a while and only recently stopped (because of an unexpected financial constraint). I thoroughly enjoyed this box and found the curation and packaging to be beautiful and well worth the money. It’s the whole experience. If you’re someone who is heavily motivated by retail value, this isn’t your box, but if you want a lovely experience that looks, smells, and tastes like monthly treats, this is for you.

Side note: this is one of those subs where the owner personally handles all customer service issues. I love that!

You would pay a lot more for shipping if you paid shipping for every item individually.
