GMA Discover the Deals October 2018 Review
Here is the info sheet for the box, along with a few coupon codes for the included brands.
Aid Through Trade The Original Roll-On® Bracelet – Retail Value $15
As a resident of Louisiana, I was excited to see that this bracelet perfectly matches the team colors of the New Orleans Saints! This is the second bracelet I have owned from Aid Through Trade and I really love their mission. This bracelet was handmade in Nepal, which provides job opportunities and empowerment for the women there.
AmazingCosmetics Illuminate Primer + Highlighter in Rose, 0.07 oz – Estimated Value $1.44 (buy the full-size version for $35)
Alright, I need to call out Discover The Deal for including this EXACT product in the September Discover The Deal Box. Mix it up a little, would ya? This is a very sheer pink tinted primer that can be used alone, mixed with foundation, or on top of your makeup for a natural looking highlight. I liked the touch of glow mixing a drop of this with my tinted moisturizer provided, but since it has a pink base I had to be careful not to use too much due to the redness in my skin.
Curél Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer, 2 oz – Estimated Value $1.83 (Buy the 12 oz version for $10.99)
I love that this was hydrating and I could apply it directly to wet skin (sometimes I forget to apply lotion while I am waiting for my skin to dry… oops). This is unscented, so it should be a good option for those with sensitive skin that is extra dry.
Murad Revitalixir™ Recovery Serum, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $11.21 (buy the full-size version for $89)
This serum is designed to improve stress-induced dryness, dullness, and puffiness- something I have a LOT of now that finals are a little over two weeks away. I liked that this was safe to apply to the eye area, and it includes ingredients like niacinamide (love!), caffeine, and cannabis sativa seed oil. My heart stopped when I thought I had a marijuana serum, but this is actually made from hemp seed oil! This didn’t leave my skin sticky, it absorbed quickly, and it layered well with my other skincare products.
Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus+ Advanced Serum Concentrate, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $37.25 ((buy the 1 oz version for $149)
Woah, I did not think this little thing would be one fourth the size of the full-size version. This is an expensive tiny jar! I know Perricone is a great skincare brand for mature or aging skin, and if you’re interested in trying Perricone products this sample alone is worth more than the cost of the entire box.
Poo~Pourri Before-You-Go Toilet Spray in Original Citrus, 2 oz – Retail Value $9.95
I had a friend stop by that needed to use the restroom, and I sent her into my bathroom with this little bottle. When she came out, she was amazed - and since I still have my bottle from a few boxes ago, I was happy to pass this along to her to use as she is in the honeymoon stage of a new relationship. This really works well at preventing odors from leaving the toilet bowl, and I will leave it at that.
SockArt Low Cut Two-Pair Pack – Estimated Value $12 (linked to the same product in a different pattern)
I am the kind of person who buys their socks in a big set packaged in a plastic bag, so I really love getting functional low-cut socks like these in subscription boxes. I love them so much, however, that I forgot to photograph these and then immediately put a pair on to go to the gym. Sorry about that! I do really like these socks. They were thin without feeling low-quality, and they are a comfortable blend of cotton, spandex, and polyester.
WEN by Chaz Dean THREENINETEEN Body Crème, 8 oz – Retail Value $80
Don’t mind me, I am busy picking my jaw off the ground after finding out that this body crème retails for $80. Knowing that price, I had to do some research- and I was disappointed to see that the second product on the ingredient list is a silicone derivative known for being a cheaper substitution for vegetable glycerin in skincare. If I am paying you $80, Chaz, why aren’t you giving me the real vegetable glycerin? I don’t even know what that is but that is what I deserve. That being said, I do really like the large number of oils and fruit extracts found in this, and it is hydrating. Is it $80 hydrating? Of course not, but you'll be hard pressed to find one that is. I did notice in the spoilers post for this box some readers commented that their body crème had a sell-by date stamped on the bottom. I couldn’t find a date on the jar, but I did have the batch code 1043A.
WEN by Chaz Dean Winter Cranberry Replenishing Treatment Mist, 6 oz – Retail Value $20
This hair mist is much more my style (and budget!) than the body crème. Some of the top ingredients in this include aloe vera, cranberry fruit extract, and peppermint oil. I have been using this on damp hair in combination with an argan oil before I comb my curls with a wide tooth comb, and I am happy with the softness and shininess of my hair and the light cranberry scent.
WEN by Chaz Dean Hope Eau de Parfum, 0.15 oz – Estimated Value $13.64 (buy the 0.33 oz version for $30)
It looks like perfume is a new release from the WEN line, as this became available in September. This is about half the size of the travel spray (and it did come full, I photographed it after spraying), and it is a blend of honey, chamomile, vanilla, coconut, and nutmeg. I found the overall scent blend to be nice, and if someone gifted me this perfume for Christmas I would keep it rather than returning it. I probably wouldn’t seek it out on my own though, as the 1.7 oz version is more expensive than my favorite fragrance (Black Tulip by Nest). That being said, considering some of the prices for products from WEN, I think the perfume prices are much more in line with what other nice perfumes retail for.
The Verdict: I feel like this box was a tale of two body lotions: we have the drugstore sample on one end and an $80 full-size lotion on the other. That being said, neither of those products were the star for me this month—I loved the socks and the Perricone moisturizer! Overall, though, this was a good box for the $36.99 value. Take the total value of $202.32 with a grain of salt, but I would definitely recommend the Discover The Deal boxes to those who are interested in trying them. Even though this one is sold out they have been offered lately with surprising frequency, and I am a fan. Hopefully, we get a new box of mismatched goodness in November!
