Our Review
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Ludwig, 0.1 oz/ 3 mL - Estimated Value $9.09 (Buy a .22 fl oz full size for $20)
Ludwig is a "nude fawn" shade. It looks slightly more cool-toned in person than it shows in the photo. Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks are my go-to for a long-lasting matte lipstick. I have collected quite a few shades over the years! They feel very comfortable, the formula is super pigmented with just one coat, and it lasts a really long time - basically all day unless you eat or drink something with a lot of oil or grease. I love these lipsticks. I really got into them and wore them daily when I first had my oldest child because I can kiss my babies all day with these on, and little hands and faces won't transfer, smudge, or smear it. Ludwig is a shade I've never tried before, and it's a super neutral shade that will work very well, especially with more intense eye looks that I tend to wear in the Fall and Winter, or with dramatic holiday party eyes!
Bite Beauty Multistick in Almond, 0.07 oz/ 2.1 g - Estimated Value $9.88 (Buy a .17 oz full size for $24)
Ummm, this is my new favorite lip color for the season! This shade, Almond, is a rich mahogany. I love wearing browns in the Fall and Winter. I haven't tried Bite Beauty's new multistick formula until now, and I like it! These multisticks are designed for use on eyes, lips, or cheeks. Each stick is actually 35% powder, so it blends easily and wears more like powder, too. For eyes and lips they suggest applying with your finger, but for lipstick, I see no reason not to just use it directly, unless you want to keep it extra sanitary for colors you plan to regularly also use on your eyes or cheeks as well. For cheeks, you can dab this and blend well with your fingers or brush for best results. This wore comfortably on my lips and lasted several hours!
Ciaté London Glitter Flip in Infamous, 0.05 oz/ 1.5 mL - Estimated Value $9.50 (Buy a .10 oz full size for $19)
My mystery item was Ciate's Glitter Flip liquid lipstick. This shade, Infamous, is a very pretty and versatile berry shade. This lipstick also comes with "instructions": When you apply it, it's supposed to be a metallic-matte finish. Then you can press your lips together to make it turn into a glitter finish and is meant to get even more glittery the more you do so. I'm not sure I quite see this "magical" transformation - it looks pretty glittery to me from the get-go. Maybe slightly more noticeable with pressing/time? Perhaps it is more obvious with other colors. The reviews on this product sound like others have had success, so I may have to play with this some more and see if I can actually tell a difference next time. I've tried it twice, though. Other than that, I'm happy with the performance of this formula! It is comfortably non-drying, transfer-proof, lasts several hours/all day (as I expect from liquid lipsticks), and opaquely pigmented.
Here are the formulas swatched side-by-side for you. Top: Kat Von D, Middle: Bite Beauty, Bottom: Ciate
Each Mystery Kit also comes with a little "Sephoji" pin, which is a little makeup/beauty-related enamel pin. The one I received in my lip kit says "I came, I saw, I contoured."
The Verdict: I am smitten with these Sephora Favorites Mystery Kits! I think they are such a great idea for little gifts and stocking stuffers. I'm thinking of giving them to as Christmas gifts to my friends who love makeup, and even a couple who are just getting into it or looking to be a little more adventurous.
