Our November 2018 Review
Each box comes with an information card listing the items included in the box as well as an encouraging monthly quote.
Elizabeth Stone Crescent Moon Necklace – Listed Value $78.00
This gold plated necklace designed in Los Angeles with a crescent moon has a 17” chain and a 3” extender, as indicated on the info card. This particular necklace wasn’t on their website; it might be an exclusive item for this box. The necklace is dainty and simplistic, perfect for any outfit. Luckily I like gold jewelry pieces, so this is a win for me. I appreciate how this subscription sends gold and silver pieces, to suit everyone's taste.
Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham – Retail Value $16.00 (found here for $13.38)
Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls and Parenthood discusses her start in show business and the road to her success at the end of the book there’s a bonus chapter devoted to her diary writings while filming Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. It's an easy read; I felt like Lauren was right here talking to me and sharing her experiences. I haven't watched an episode of Gilmore Girl’s, but I have seen Lauren in other shows and movies. For those who are a fan of Gilmore Girl's and the reboot, this will be an enjoyable read.
In Talking as Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, “Did you, um, make it?” She opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood (“Strangers were worried about me; that’s how long I was single!”), the time she was asked to audition her butt for a role, and her experience being a judge on Project Runway (“It’s like I had a fashion-induced blackout”).
In “What It Was Like, Part One,” Graham sits down for an epic Gilmore Girls marathon and reflects on being cast as the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore. The essay “What It Was Like, Part Two” reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her.
Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she’s aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls (“If you’re meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you’ve already set the bar too high”), and she’s a card-carrying REI shopper (“My bungee cords now earn points!”).
Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and—of course—talking as fast as you can.
Kitsch Hair Ties – Listed Value $14.00
These popular hair ties came in a set of eight, and they’re from Kitsch which is intended to be gentle on my hair and used as a bracelet. The set has four knotted hair ties and four matching elastic hair ties in four neutral colors. The hair ties are too small for me to use on my hair, I will wear as a bracelet instead.
Decorated Shortbread Cookie – Listed Value $4.00
This decorated shortbread cookie has the heart eye emoji displayed on the front in sugary icing. The cookie is thick, crunchy, and the frosting is sweet. I slowly enjoyed this shortbread cookie, which is a favorite of mine. I was unable to find the correct location for this cookie for purchase, so the value is from the info card. This cookie has wheat, eggs, dairy, and food dye/artificial colors for those with dietary restrictions or allergies take note.
Way of Will Moisturizing Body Oil-4.4 oz – Retail Value $32.00
This brand is familiar to me, I have received their massage oil in a previous FabFitFun box, and I will receive their essential oils in my upcoming FabFitFun Winter Box. I love body oils, it moisturizes my skin and leaves it baby, smooth. This body oil has essential oils to soothe and relax my skin, the cedarwood oil is grounding and intends to relax and restore damaged skin, as well as the grapefruit oil to balance and tone oily congested skin, the lavender to calm my senses and the jojoba oil to fight free radical damage, rejuvenate my skin and prevent acne. The scent wasn’t pleasing to my senses; it reminded me of peanuts. Fortunately, the aroma was faint.
From Way of Will:
A 100% natural moisturizing body oil for dry and tight skin. Use this product after your training session and shower to keep your skin hydrated and your muscle tone healthy. This oil blend is medium in weight and suitable for all skin types. One bottle should last well over a month with daily use. This product has a woodsy floral scent.
All WILL products are stripped down to the bare essentials:
-
Medium weight and quickly absorbed
-
No overpowering lingering scent
-
No artificial coloring
-
No sticky residue
-
No synthetic oils
-
No alcohol
Mollie Jacob Vivid Glo Palette – Retail Value $34.00
This eyeshadow palette designed and formulated in Florida has five blendable shades for your enjoyment. As I was writing this review and reading over the info card again, the small compact palette has a slide out mirror on the bottom of the compact for to-go touch-ups. I can’t believe I missed that. The mirror is a clever design. The colors are perfect for a neutral look or a smokey eye look or go dramatic with the mauve color. The size is perfect for your makeup bag or to put in your clutch for a night out for a touch-up. I don’t tend to wear eyeshadows, but this compact can be great to pass on to a friend or keep for a night out. The palette is certified cruelty-free, petrochemical free, paraben free, fragrance-free, natural ingredients, and infused with jojoba seed oil.
Here are the colors swatched, brick red, mauve, mature, blush, and shy. The colors were not labeled, so the order of the colors is a guess.
Lauren B. Beauty Reparative Cuticle Oil- .34 oz – Retail Value $22.00
This cuticle oil packs a punch with essential oils to hydrate, heal, and protect my cuticles. The cuticle oil consists of, safflower oil, soybean oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, castor oil, sunflower oil, rosemary, ylang-ylang, olive fruit oil, and rice bran extract. The dropper made it easy to dispense the oil onto my cuticles. The aroma reminded me of flowers. It's recommended to dispense one drop onto my cuticles and wait for one to two minutes and then massage oil around my cuticles. I haven't noticed a difference yet; I will continue to use to hydrate and nourish my dry cuticles and nails.
Bonus
Enclosed is a card with a coupon code for a free box of 100% organic, chemical-free tampons from Kali Boxes. I typed in preferences and answered their questions based on cycle type, and I would receive Kali Organic Plastic Tampon Box Auto renew for $20.00. I will pass this on to my niece since I no longer have my cycle.
