SnackSack Classic October 2018 Review
SnackSack got a makeover last month! I love the greens and blues of the newer packaging! The pamphlet pictured above contains an abundance of information including social media handles, a “menu” for their three box options and some promotions to win snacks and prizes.
Every first-time subscriber receives a reusable bag, which is meant to hold all your snacks.
Now onto the goodies!
Wholesome Organic Cinnamon Bears, .7oz - Buy a 2oz bag for $1.99
These cinnamon bears, although tasty and an all-around natural snack, contain 70 calories and 14 grams of sugar… in 4 bears! Yikes! I’ve learned to approach this brand with caution because mindlessly eating their delicious snacks could be so dangerous, especially if you are watching your sugar/caloric intake!
Wholesome Surf Sweets Organic Spooky Shapes, .45oz - Buy a 20 pack for $6.49
These fruit snacks are not as bad as the Cinnamon Bears above, but still, 5 fruit snacks are 45 calories and 8 grams of sugar.
Vegan Rob’s Jackfruit Puffs, 1.25oz - Buy a 3.5oz bag for $3.79
Here is a snack I can get behind! I love puffs, and these are a bit different than your average puff. They taste subtly sweet and are a delight to munch. This vegan snack is totally plant-based and gluten-free; I’ve never even heard of Jackfruit, but I think Vegan Rob is on to something!
Saffron Road Sea Salt Crunchy Chickpeas, 1.25oz - Buy a 6oz bag here for $4.99 (found here for $3.41)
Chickpeas are a snack I always forget about, but they are so delicious. This sea-salted version allows the chickpea flavor to do all the work (yum!), but I’d love to try some of the other flavors Saffron Road offers. The 1.25oz bag has 7 grams of protein, making it a great, satisfying snack.
Love Corn Premium Roasted Corn, 1.6oz - Buy a 10 pack here for $19.99 (On sale here for $16.99)
The roasted flavor is on point in this crunchy corn snack. This isn’t something I would normally pick up for myself, but this bag came in handy for when I needed a salty snack. This pack only contains three ingredients, too! Although the carb and sodium presence is kind of high, I still think this is a healthier alternative to my usual chip indulgence.
Just the Cheese Crunchy Toasted Cheese Bar, .8oz - Buy a pack of 12 here for $28.99 (found here for $25.99)
I totally wasn’t ready for this snack; it is literally just a baked bar of cheddar!! I’ve never seen anything like this -- where has this been all my life? I live in a household of cheese fanatics (especially Murray), and we basically fought over who got to finish this one (Murray won). You can snap off pieces of this bar easily, and it is so crunchy and fun to snack on. A+ from all of us!
Mozaics Popped Veggie & Potato Chips, 1.25oz - Buy a 3.5oz bag for $3.99
Popped snacks like this have a pretty wholesome taste that I’ve come to expect. I didn’t find anything particularly fun or exciting about this snack (especially after that last flavor bomb above!), but I do like that you can see some of the wholesome ingredients (green peas, yellow peas, black beans, etc.) inside the actual chip. I would have really liked to try one of the other flavors this company makes (especially the salsa flavor) to make this snack more memorable.
Pretzel Pete Salted Caramel Mini Twists, .8oz - Buy a 24 pack for $17.50
Pretzels are so underrated. I could eat them all day, and this salted caramel version is great. Each pretzel is lightly dusted in seasoning that just adds enough sweetness to make it a savory treat, not dessert. This 100 calorie pack is the perfect multitasking snack on the go to both satisfy your sweet tooth or your salty cravings! Win-win!
That’s It. Apple + Cherries Fruit Bar, 1.2oz - Buy a box of 12 for $20.49 (found here for $18.47)
I really like bars like this, but I try to eat them in moderation due to sugar content; although there is no sugar added, this bar has a whopping 22 grams! Other than that, I love the apple cherry blend and the texture is pleasantly soft and chewy.
Darlington Snacks Blueberry Lemon Bites, 1oz
Darlington does it again! Blueberry lemon cookies shaped like little apples with a bite taken out of them--cute and delicious! I really like that this snack does not contain any preservatives, too. I would definitely buy these in store if I could find them on a normal, non-wholesale site or store.
Emmy’s Organics Radiant Coconut Cookie, .67oz - Buy a 2oz package for $3.29 (found here for $2.68)
Lemon+ginger+coconut is an unexpected, yet tasty combination. This moist cookie didn’t last long, but it was just enough… to make me want more! Ha! The mild ginger really gives the lemon and coconut an extra zing of flavor, and this macaroon just basically melts in your mouth.
Smashmallow Strawberries & Cream Smashcrispy, 1.15oz - Buy a box of 6 for $5
Aw yeah! I was so excited when I saw the spoilers for this month’s box. We sampled the Churro flavor in last month’s SnackSack (YUM), and this strawberry version did not disappoint! When I opened the packaging, I could smell the strawberries and cream immediately. It was sweet, soft, chewy and everything you’d expect from Smashmallow! This is definitely sweeter than the Churro flavor, and it might be my new fave.
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts Shelled Hemp Seeds, 15g - Buy a 2oz bag for $2.99 (found here for $2.31)
This is a nice bonus item not listed in the box contents. I use hemp seeds regularly in smoothies, and these have a nutty, mellow taste to them.
Verdict: One thing I’ve noticed this month is that we got a lot of “sea salt” items. Although it is generally a crowd-pleasing taste, I’d love if they’d mix up the flavors a bit. Other than that, SnackSack always brings a fantastic array of salty, sweet and savory! I always look forward to trying new, healthy treats, and they do a really great job finding treats I’ve never heard of before.
