Succulent Studio November 2018 Box Review

Succulent Studios plants

The plants ship inside a cleverly designed cardboard box, which is intended to hold them safely in place during their journey. The selection of plants you get differs month to month, based on what's ready to go!

Succulent Studios tiny plant in packaging

Each individual plant is packaged in a little puff of hay, which is secured with several rubber bands to hold them in place.

Baby Necklace

This just might be the smallest plant I've gotten from this subscription! Succulent Studios plants tend to be on the tiny side, but these twin stems are itty bitty!!! Each sprig is about 3/4 of an inch tall. I do love that, according to the info card, this plant is happy to live indoors during the winter and only needs occasional watering! It's too cold for anything to live out on my sunny porch any longer!

Watch Chain

Another accessory-themed name! This plant almost looks like the tiny plastic ferns you'd get for a model railroad. Like the Baby Necklace, this plant is happy in partial shade and cooler environments. I have a little hanging planter that might be just what this small plant ordered!

The Verdict: These plants are both so cute, and I really appreciate the subscription sending me species that will work in my current climate/season. Still, the price point is tricky when the plants are this small. Don't get me wrong, they are wonderfully healthy plants—I've had good luck with a lot of my Succulent Studio plants, and this new set seems to be quite happy sitting on the windowsill. (The Watch Chain's arms are starting to reach out and make themselves at home.) But I personally have a lot of plant-shopping options in my neighborhood where I could get much more mature plants (or small plants in nicer-quality planters) for around the same amount as this subscription costs. If you don't have as many resources, nor the time to shop for plants, this subscription is a fun solution. From my perspective, however, it's not as budget-friendly as it could be.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes. According to their site, "Every month, [Succulent Studios picks] 2 plants to send to our subscribers. If you subscribe any time in that month, you will receive that month’s plants."

Value Breakdown: After shipping, this box cost $16.50, meaning each plant costs $8.25.

You should remember it takes time and effort to grow these plants..they need to purchase boxes, soil, and they have the nice back story cards, all which require money. The plants are super cute and as you say for 8 bucks a plant that is shipped to you..it is a decent bargain.

Based on your reviews, I purchased a subscription to this box for my 73-year old mother’s birthday. She loves it! Thank you so much for the review!
