Tarte Build Your Own Custom Beauty Kit November 2018 Review
Here's the list of what items I picked this month.
Multi-Color Sequin Makeup Bag - Estimated Value $8?
The first item you choose in these kits is which bag you’d like. I love this sequin bag! The colors are so fun, it's lined, and it's a smallish size, but big enough to hold everything I ordered in my kit! (It's bigger than an Ipsy bag.)
Tartiest PRO Cruelty-Free Lashes, Little Black Dress (natural) - Retail Value $12
The Eyes category had various eyeliners, single eyeshadows, and false lashes to choose from. I've already tried most of the liners and I don't tend to use single shadows much, so I picked the falsies! These are the "Little Black Dress (natural)" variation. I have to say I'm actually really glad I picked these! I'm impressed with how natural they look. Although, when I put them on, they are definitely more long and dramatic than I expected from a "natural" set but still not a big, bold statement. I really like these and can see myself adding these for my day-to-day looks more often!
Clay Stick Foundation in Fair neutral (fair skin with neutral undertones) - Retail Value $39
This is a foundation formula I haven't tried from Tarte before. Despite being a clay foundation, I found it to feel very light on my skin and even slightly hydrating! The coverage was moderate, not full like I was expecting, but it is very buildable so you can work up to more coverage easily. I love that Tarte has the undertones specified with their shade names because it can be hard to find neutral-toned foundations like I need to match my complexion. I'm glad I got to try this, and I'm excited to work with it more and wear it as my new go-to.
Limited Edition Maneater Voluptuous Mascara - Retail Value $23
I tried to pick products that are new to me this time around. This mascara has a silicone wand with shorter bristles, which really helped to get some length, curl, and definition. This is a great mascara!
Amazonian Clay Waterproof 12-hour Concealer, fair - Retail Value $25
I love this concealer. It's full coverage and it sets beautifully smooth - without drying out, oxidizing, or turning chalky. This works great for dark under eye circles or blemishes. I also love the purple and gold metal tube design; it gives it a nice weight and feels luxe to me.
Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint, Sis (warm brown) - Retail Value $20
I love a good liquid lipstick, and I'm happy with the performance of Tarte's matte formula. It's opaque and has great staying power, even through eating I found. I chose the color Sis because I liked the pictures I saw online, and warm tones and browns are ones I love to wear in the Fall/Winter. This shade is described as a "warm brown" but I found it to actually look much more brick red in the tube and on my lips than it looks on Tarte's website. Maybe I need to add a second layer to make the color deeper? I don't really mind, though, because this shade is still gorgeous.
Limited Edition Blush & Glow Blush & Highlighter, rose gold (peachy glow) - Retail Value $30
I was excited to see this combo compact this time around! I love the packaging (let's face it: Tarte has really great packaging design in general), and the colors of the blush and highlighter are great. Tarte's blushes are some of my very favorites out there, and this one is the same long-lasting and easily-blendable formula. The highlighter is a nice shade, too, though I found the payoff to be a little less substantial; it's kind of subtle and hard to overdo.
Here's each item swatched. From top to bottom: foundation, concealer, lipstick, blush, highlighter.
Here, I'm wearing everything except for the false eyelashes (foundation, concealer, blush, highlighter, lipstick, mascara). I really love everything!
And here's with the false lashes added! As I said earlier, they're definitely much longer than I expected them to be for being a "natural" set but the way the lashes are laid out looks natural. They're not too much of statement, and I kind of just got used to them and felt extra feminine and put together. I loved wearing these!
The Verdict: These Tarte Build-Your-Own kits are not to be missed! They're one of my all-time favorite beauty box releases of the year. It’s refreshing to have them offer you your choice of each category rather than having it be a total mystery like typical subscription boxes, and that I can choose to use the discount to try new-to-me Tarte products so I'm not risking paying full-price, or take the opportunity to stock up on my favorites. And all full-size! The value is fantastic for the products you get. This box cost me $63 including free shipping, and my 7 items add up to a retail value of about $157. I am absolutely happy with that!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, Tarte only offers these Create-Your-Own kits twice a year! (Last year and this year, they released in May and November, so I would expect the next one in May 2019)

- Clay Stick foundation: $15.65
