The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from Appraising Pages, which is now called The Bookish Shop.
Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only—no actual books involved. Recently, though, they changed up their game and added several subscription varieties to choose from, including one that does have a book inside!
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
This review is of the Bookish Shirt & Goodies Box, which is $29.99 a month + shipping.

The Bookish Box Subscription Box "Alluring Darkness" October 2018 Review
Here's the info card for this month's box. Note that they list out every item that you could get with the subscription (including add-ons). In my subscription box, I got everything in the top section plus the shirt.
There's a card for a photo challenge, too!
Calendar Card
On the flip side of the photo challenge info is this calendar card for the month of November. I can't believe its already November! The quote is from The Little Prince by Antoine e Saint-Exupery.
The Darkling Scarf - Estimated Retail Value $17.00
This beautiful scarf is inspired by a villain from the Grisha Trilogy. I haven't yet made it through the first book from this series (Shadow and Bone) but it has been a really engrossing read so far. If you like darker fantasy I highly recommend it! These purple tones are not something I normally ever wear, but the stars and crystal print make it worth a try for me. It is a silky thinner fabric that reminds me of the vintage scarves I collect and makes it much more of a fashion-forward choice than a knit one would be. I love when I can mix an accessory from a fandom I love seamlessly with my normal clothing.
Potion Master Candle by Cherry Pit Crafts 4 0z- Retail Value $6.00
Candles are always hit or miss for me since I am one of those people who can't stand food scents. This is an apple cinnamon blend that is very strong. It is a soy wax candle which I love because the burn times are longer. The candle itself is a really pretty green and I love the reference to Professor Snape (always). Although this is not a scent I would ever burn in my own home, I know exactly who would love this as a gift.
Ursula Inspired Ring - Estimated Retail Value $8.00
Full disclosure: Ursula is not one of my favorite villains. As a kid, she actually always creeped me out! But I can appreciate this tentacle style wrap ring, especially because it's very nautical and the open-ended styling makes it adjustable for any ring size. Although I am not an Ursula fan, I do love the ocean and I can see this making its way into my jewelry rotation.
Collectors Enamel Pin by Dust and Pages - Estimated Retail Value $10.00
I recently read The Cruel Prince and I have mixed feelings about it. Because it is the first in a trilogy, I do plan on reading the others when they are released. I really think this pin is just stunning though! Its shiny and heavyweight and would be a wonderful pin even if you had zero familiarity with this series. This pin is 2 of 14 in a continuing series, so I am excited to see the upcoming ones in future boxes!
Aaron Warner Bookmark
The quotes on both sides of this beautiful bookmark are from the Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi. I have not read this trilogy but it seems to be a great mix of sci-fi and romance which is always a winning combo for me. It is absolutely going to be added to my reading list. The illustrations on this bookmark are lovely and it is heavy and coated with a protective layer.
Give the Dark My Love Inspired Shirt - Estimated Retail Value $24.00
I love this quote and the little purple skulls around it. It's actually a perfect Halloween shirt for a book lover. My only complaint is that these shirts run so small! They are a fitted women's cut so if you prefer your t-shirts to be a more relaxed fit, size up for sure!
The Verdict: This was a really fun box, especially for October. I appreciated the villain theme and the really creative and high-quality accessories. I am looking forward to collecting all the pins and wearing the soft scarf. Although I didn't like the candle smell, it will make a fantastic gift! Overall this month had a really great variety of items and value. The pieces also encouraged me to add a few new books to my reading list.
