Yummy Bazaar Full Experience "Greece" October 2018 Review
As our info sheet tells us, this month we are going to Greece! If only the box was actually a teleporter to Santorini... guess only my tastebuds will be making this journey.
Flokos Greek Sliced Squid in Piquant Sauce, 120g. - Retail Value $5.45
Oh my. The first product is a doozy for me. I do not eat squid and I do not like spicy. Luckily for me, my husband was absolutely down for taste testing this product for us. He said the squid was salty, moderately spicy, and "squishy". He quickly ate all of the tentacles with a fork, straight out of the tin, so apparently, this was a winner for at least one of us.
Chripal Moustokouloura Grape Must Cookies, 12.34 oz - Retail Value $4.95
Unlike our squid friends, these cookies were vegan. They are flavored with a grape must but remind me a little of molasses. They were an inadvertently festive choice for this time of year, and I enjoyed them with my favorite tea after dinner. I also enjoy the little cookie bellybuttons.
Matis Pistachio Halva, 14.1 oz.- Retail Value $9.95
I have never tried halva before, though I have heard of it. Honestly, it looked like a weird cheese in the container, but the actual texture of this treat was dry and moist at the same time, with a gritty nutty taste and texture. Again, my husband was instantly smitten with this product and proceeded to enjoy it straight out of the container with a spoon. It was sweet enough for me to consider it a dessert, but not super sweet. I really liked the pistachio flavor and I plan on drizzling it with a little honey when I revisit it.
Iliada Organic Pitted Kalamata Olives, 13 oz. - Retail Value $5.85
You really can never go wrong with olives in my house. Black, green, cheese stuffed, we love them all! My husband remarked that these have a metallic taste, which I also noticed. This isn't a bad thing by any means and these little beauties were utterly snackable. They didn't last long.
Haitoglou Bros Greek Macedonian Tahini, 10.6 oz. - Retail Value $6.95
Oh tahini! You are so incredibly tasty and versatile. I love tahini on toast with honey and if I were a less lazy cook I would absolutely use it to make my own hummus. You can use this deliciousness as a vegetable dip or with lemon and olive oil as a salad dressing.
Sitos Orzo Pasta, 16 oz - Retail Value $3.95
Orzo is another Greek staple and something I am always happy to add to my pantry. I tossed some of this orzo with lemon juice, olive oil, and the tahini from this month's box and it was simple and very yummy.
Verdict: Yummy Bazaar Full Experience Box nailed the Greek box. It had some obvious selections (such as the orzo and tahini) and some other products that I had never heard of. While I will never be a fan of squid, I loved the olives and the halva. My husband also gave this box two enthusiastic thumbs up. If I separate my stomach from my wallet, I have to admit that the overall box value of $37.10 feels a little low when compared to the $35.95 box cost.
