All Around Vegan December 2018 Review
All Around Vegan is a fairly new box for me. Let’s see what they sent this month:
There was a standard information card with more details about the items in the box, including how they fit the categories nutrition, lifestyle, bath/body, and activism. Sometimes there is product literature as well.
Vegan Rob’s Wild Rice Chips (3.5 oz) – Retail Value $3.29 (found here for $2.91)
Vegan Rob’s is a popular subscription box brand, not just in vegan boxes. I’m starting to see their products at Publix, too. Anyway, unlike some of their other products, these are super plain. They are pretty substantial, though, and would work with many different kinds of dip because their flavor is neutral.
Coconut Cashew Crunch GFB Bites (4 oz) – Retail Value $5
Considering the ingredients list (which includes brown rice syrup and agave nectar among the first four ingredients), these are actually relatively low in sugar for a sweet snack. I guess the bulk of them is made up of cashews, which honestly makes the price pretty reasonable. They have a good texture and a flavor that is nutty (the coconut is there but mild) and I am a fan.
Rare Essence Aromatherapy Rosemary and Mind Hand Lotion – Buy a 13 oz container for $8
I could not find a package size printed on this anywhere but it is definitely not the full 13 oz size. Anyway, I am always looking for a good hand lotion because this time of year, my hands are cracked and bleeding from the cold (I have to wash them a lot because of my pets). This was gentle even on irritated skin and the rosemary and mint smelled a touch medicinal (this was more mint than rosemary). I did not have a reaction to the mint even though I have been somewhat sensitive to menthol in the past. It seems to soften up the skin on my hands, as well.
Samara Mini Purse in Blush – Retail Value $60 (found on sale here for $45)
This is a pretty big-ticket item for this box. This is said to carry 12-15 of your most needed cards (I don’t even know that I have 15 “most needed” cards) but honestly, I can’t use this as a purse because something this small without a strap is going to get set down and forgotten and lost in about half a minute with my attention span. However, I like to carry some extra contact lenses in my purse for emergencies (I wear dailies) and this is a good size to hold a few pairs and it will be easy to find among the larger items in my purse. I do like the design of this and the material feels soft, thick, and high-quality. (I tried to put something in my cart so I could see what the mystery coupon was worth but it didn’t work…)
Temporary Tattoos
This is the “activism” item for the month. I will give the folks at All Around Vegan credit – they come up with something pretty different for this part of the subscription every month, which has to be hard to do. Anyway, it’s a pretty subtle type of activism here (which may go over better in some quarters). These were not available in the All Around Vegan store.
Theo Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups – Retail Value $2.29
These are made with 55% cacao although it tasted a bit darker to me. I think maybe they’re lower in sugar than the non-vegan item they’re meant to mimic and that’s what made the difference. They are a fair trade item and are free of palm oil (palm oil and the associated deforestation have been criticisms directed towards Reese’s so if this is something that concerns you, this may be a more environmentally-friendly alternative (also, of course, it is vegan).
Verdict: I did not calculate a value for All Around Vegan this month because many of the food items were not available for individual purchase. This subscription costs $42.45 (with shipping), and the mini purse alone was $45 which makes the other items more of bonus items since the single mini purse exceeds the cost of the box. This was an interesting month with one expensive item that is not the sort of thing you usually see in this subscription, but I think it just goes to show that interest in vegan and environmentally-friendly products is becoming more mainstream and that you can totally have cute, polished, classy accessories without using animal products.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. If you sign up now, you’ll get the January box (ships January 1) as your first box.

Value Breakdown: At $42.45 for this box (subscription cost plus shipping), the purse is valued at $60 retail (not on sale), which means all five items this month come to an average of $8.49.
