Amoda Tea November 2018 Review
The information card provides a short description of each tea, information about their online community, and a member only store discount!
Included was a gorgeous postcard with a little note from the Amoda crew revealing their new logo. I think it is beautiful guys!
One really nice thing about the Amoda Tea subscription is the inclusion of 10 loose leaf tea bags in each box. It makes brewing your first cuppa' in a hurry super easy and you can toss it in the trash after without guilt, as these are biodegradable.
Opal Creek Orange Spice - Oolong Tea - Buy 1.75 oz. for $10.00
This tea was a surprise for me because generally, you find these hearty fall flavors in black tea blends instead of oolong. This brew was super light but had a strong cinnamon finish. There are also orange and spices but they are not overwhelming. Even though I am someone who generally avoids "fall" favors, I liked this tea very much because it was so light. The bag recommends a 5-6 minute brew time but I just left the bag in, as I don't mind an over-brewed oolong and the flavor was so mild that I feel like it needed a little longer of a soak.
Lemon Ginger Tulsi - Green Tea - Buy 1.8 oz. for $11.00
I really loved this almost medicinal green tea! It was spicy and almost peppery, which I very much loved. It is a good choice before bed since it is caffeine free and I enjoyed it with some raw sugar. I always recommend watching your water temperature with any green tea; too hot and it goes bitter. I have a clear glass kettle and I poured water just before it really started bubbling and I only left the tea bag in for 6 minutes TOPS. For me, this was a perfect preparation for this delicate tea.
Cacao Purple Tea - Chocolate Tea - Buy 1.8 oz. for $9.00
This tea is a blend of crushed cocoa shells, Kenyan purple tea, and rose petals. Yum! Put rose petals in just about anything and I am a happy camper. This tea had a cocoa scent but it was more a smell than an actual chocolate flavor until I added in a tiny bit of raw sugar and almond milk and this enhanced the chocolate factor as well as the rose! This bag recommends a 4-minute brew but once again I thought it needed longer and left mine in around 7 minutes.
Sunrise to Sunset - Green Tea - Buy 1.8 oz. for $10.00
I love teas with anything roasted in them. It adds such a complex flavor. Hojicha is so toasty and wonderful by itself but this blend adds citrus and rosemary notes which knocks this flavor profile out of the park. I added a little raw sugar but avoided the almond milk, as this tea didn't need it.
Verdict: Amoda Tea has some of the most unique teas you can find in a monthly box. The $20/month cost seems very appropriate for the approximately 12-20 cups of tea and the brew bags. My favorite this month was by far the Sunrise to Sunset for its complex roasted flavors, followed closely by the Lemon Tulsi. The Cacao purple was also something I enjoyed and had never tried before. The Opal Creek was my least favorite but I still really liked it!
