Bulu Box (Weight Loss Version) December 2018 Review
There are box variations, and sometimes rather heavy product promotion, so you may not always get the same box as someone else or be able to make the connection to weight loss for each product:
The information cards are now generic rather than describing your items.
There was also some product literature. Sometimes this relates to items in the box and sometimes it does not.
Tone It Up Protein Bar in Blueberry Coconut (1.41 oz) – Buy 4 Bars for $7.99
This bar is new for me and it’s vegetarian so I was excited to receive it. It’s lower in calories than a regular protein bar; I think it’s meant as a weight loss assistance product. At any rate, this is full of protein “crisps” which have some air content in them and the texture is a bit like a Rice Krispie treat, so you feel like you are eating a lot. The flavor is good, more generically fruity than blueberry specific, but definitely edible and a good low-calorie option.
Dr. Kellyann’s Slim Collagen Hot Cocoa Drink Mix (0.74 oz) – Buy 7 Servings for $29.75
This is sweetened only with monk fruit and also contains collagen (a protein from animal connective tissues). Collagen definitely can have benefits in terms of skin and hair health, but of course, it is not vegetarian. My husband was a willing guinea pig but he didn’t particularly care for this, said it was not much like drinking hot cocoa at all. It’s also kind of expensive at more than $4 per pouch. If you are really committed to consuming collagen, this product could be worth a look, but it is probably not going to substitute for actual hot cocoa.
Up4 Probiotic Gummies (4 count) – Buy 60 for $15.75
These are vegan so I tried them. They taste all right and I think the prebiotic inulin works pretty well with the overall gummy texture. They do have some sugar although one serving (2 gummies) is relatively low in calories. I can’t say I saw much of a difference with only 4 of these, possibly because I have been eating a lot of yogurt lately, but it is definitely something I would consider in the future if I was looking for a new probiotic.
This item was also in the regular version of Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).
Sparkle Skin Boost Starter Kit (0.6 oz) – Retail Value $10
Collagen supplementation really has proven to be good for skin and hair health, and it’s nice that they provide you with a couple of different flavors here, because what I have heard about collagen drinks is that some of them have unpleasant flavors and here you can decide what works best for you. I will have to pass these along, though, because collagen only comes from animals so this is not a vegetarian item.
This item was also in the regular version of Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).
Sun God Medicinals Organic Heka Serenitea (0.5 oz) – Buy 2 oz for $8.99
I view the teas from Bulu Box with caution; they often have trendy herbal ingredients, which is something I’m not so into. Also, this one had a name called “Sun God Medicinals” which did not sound promising as I don’t care for most medicinal teas. Well. I was actually a huge fan of this when I tried it. There are nice, large, identifiable pieces of herbs in there, as you can see, plus you get a good amount to try, plus none of the herbs are particularly unusual (chamomile, oat straw, lemon balm, and lavender). For me this month, this item was the clear winner and something I would consider buying again.
Verdict: There were 5 samples this month. If you paid full price for this subscription, you paid about $2 for each item. The Sparkle kit is worth the month-to-month cost of the box, and the collagen hot cocoa is over $4 more than that, and the tea is an additional $2 or so over that, as is the bar, so you are getting close to double the price of the box in items (assuming you are willing to drink collagen preparations). From a value perspective, you do come off pretty well this month. Although I can’t have the collagen items, the tea was a total win for me and I did like the protein bar as well.
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, January would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
