Our Review
This month’s box has a variety of great macabre products!
Included in this month’s box was a coupon for Frightrags.com! I absolutely love this site because they have KILLER (see what I did there?) designs and are size inclusive offering unisex shirts that go up to 5x! My brother is a man of size, so I take advantage of their great range and stock up on cool horror themed shirts for him on Black Friday for his birthday and Christmas! Plus, I always get myself a few goodies too, duh! The ad features my favorite fictional serial killer, The Shape aka Michael Myers, just in time for the release of the new Halloween movie!
Devil’s Day by Andrew Michael Hurley—Retail Value $26.00 (found here for $17.10)
This book follows a man named John Pentecost that is traveling with his new wife to his rural hometown to attend his grandfather’s funeral. His grandfather was known as the Gaffer in John’s village. The Gaffer’s responsibility was to redraw the boundary lines of the village to keep the sheep safe from… the Devil. The book relies on a great deal in pagan beliefs and touches on the conflict of leaving one’s hometown for the big city, only to realize how deeply bound and drawn back one can be to their past upbringings and home. Well worth the read!
Stranger Things Library Card Bookmark
Honestly, how can one dislike Stranger Things? It is so well written, has a great cast, and is the perfect throwback to all that is 80s sci-fi and horror. I, for one, was born in the early 80s, so the show appeals to me and makes me nostalgic for my youth. I was pleased to see Dustin’s book check out card and a library card membership for the Hawkins Public Library. Not the most impressive piece in this box, but a far more exciting bookmark option than my ripped up Walgreen’s ad I was using!
Horror Movie Themed Key Ring
Okay, this piece is pretty dang cool! This key ring is made to look like vintage hotel keys from the 70s and 80s. Apparently, there were TWELVE variations including ones for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hotel Hell, but I obviously scored the coolest one: The Winchester Tavern key ring from Shaun of the Dead! Truly, Shaun of the Dead remains one of the smartest zombie comedies to be released in my humble opinion, so I couldn’t be happier with this piece!
“My Favorite Holiday is Halloween” Limited Edition Tote Bag
Whelp! This may be my favorite piece sent to me in this month’s Creepy Crate, and that says a lot! I am a huge Halloween/Michael Myers fan so as soon as I saw this tote bag I nearly squealed with joy! The fabric of the tote is made of a lightweight cotton fabric. I use this sometimes as a purse or a secondary bag to store my make up in; it is spooky AND functional! Every day can be Halloween with this tote bag, my fellow goblins and ghouls!
Limited Edition H.H Holmes Murder Castle T-shirt Size Large (Unisex)
If the Michael Myers tote was my favorite piece in this box, then this t-shirt is an extremely close second. I read up on a lot of true crime and serial killers and H.H Holmes is certainly one of the most fascinating and disturbing murderers. He is known to have admitted to killing nine people, but it has been estimated Holmes may have murdered between twenty to two hundred people. You may recall American Horror Story: Hotel had a character based on him played by Evan Peters. Holmes is known to be one of America’s first serial killers and had a hotel built in Chicago around the World Fair that had various secret doorways and rooms that were allegedly created for him to torture and murder his victims in. If you want to learn more on H.H Holmes, I strongly suggest reading The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness that the Fair That Changed America. The t-shirt has a design of H.H Holmes and his hotel to eerily commemorate the 1893 World Fair. Just thinking about H.H Holmes has my hair standing, as you can see by the pictures! The fabric is incredibly soft and has great stretch. I know I will get a ton of wear from this creepy piece!
“Warmed Over” Tarot Card Coffee Mug
Death warmed over, get it? I love the style, wit, and darkness of this mug. Not enough to drink black coffee or any coffee in it---but I will drink everything else in this awesome mug! I am impressed by the quality of this piece! I sense I will be drinking a lot of seltzer water out of this because it is just too cool not to use!
Verdict: Holy smokes! This month’s Creepy Crate was a home run! I am not only impressed by the quality of the pieces selected for me this month but also their broad range of references. I am a huge horror and true crimes fan so this box is right up my alley! For the $39.99 price point, you can’t beat it: I got a mug, key ring, t-shirt, tote bag, bookmarks, and hardcover novel in this month’s box! I can’t suggest Creepy Crate enough!
