Degustabox December 2018 Review
Degustabox always has a really nice info sheet that goes over each item included in the box with their retail values. This month's theme is "Lunchbox".
The back is different each month. December features a chicken recipe to use with the included poultry seasoning. Now I'm hungry!
There are some coupons included, as well as a flyer that highlights the company that packs each box.
Lastly, they've included a holiday card.
Garden of Life Protein Bar in Maple Sea Salt - Retail Value $2.19
This protein bar has quite a bit of maple flavor packed into it which is not really my preference. I'm more of a peanut butter or chocolate protein bar type of gal. This has a bit of a fibrous aftertaste to it, but the sweetness sticks with you and makes it more enjoyable. In addition to the maple and sea salt, it has cashews, pecans, dates, and 12 g of milk protein.
Dave's Gourmet Creamy Ginger Citrus Hot Sauce, 8 oz. - Retail Value $6.99 (found here for $4.96)
Since ginger is spicy in a different sort of way than peppers, I was interested to try this hot sauce. It also happens to be vegan which makes me wonder what makes it "creamy". It is quite tasty and I'd say has a good bit of spice to it! The ingredients include red jalapenos, carrots, white vinegar, lime juice, onion, garlic, and cumin in addition to the ginger and a few other necessary hot sauce attendees. I'm pretty into this sauce, now I just have to find a vehicle for it.
Chef Paul Prudhomme's Magic Seasoning Blends in Poultry Magic, 2 oz. - Retail Value $4.09 (found here for $3.38)
My Mom used this seasoning growing up so I was happy to find a taste from my childhood in this month's box. I enjoy getting things like this in Degustabox because it will last a long time and is something I can always use. I eat a lot of chicken but normally just use salt + pepper, so this seasoning made with garlic, onion, and paprika will really jazz things up a bit.
Bahlsen Iced Cinnamon Stars, 3.5 oz. - Retail Value $4.95
I don't know why but I got pretty amped upon seeing these. I think it's because of it being a good holiday food item and reminds me of Christmas cookies. These little cinnamon and hazelnut cookies are iced with white icing to make a real taste of Winter. I could easily eat the whole bag even though it's on the smaller side. They're super festive for a holiday gathering!
Vahdam Teas Assorted Tea Sampler, 5 ct. - Buy a 15 tea sampler for $9.99
Another great cold weather item is this sampler of 5 teas from India. It includes a chai tea, two green teas, an herbal tea, and a black tea to suit anyone's tastes. I went straight for the Chamomile Mint Citrus Tea which ended up being delightful and just the right amount of brisk mintiness I like. The tea bags themselves are fancy mesh pyramids so they are aesthetically pleasing as well! This will be great to have around when company comes.
G.H. Cretors Popped Corn in The Mix, 1.5 oz. x2 - Buy a 24 pack for $28.81
I didn't think I'd like the mix of sweet caramel and savory cheese together, even though I love them separately, but this works for me. It's kind of like when you get one of those big tins of variety popcorn but maybe some of it gets mixed together. The popcorn tastes pretty fresh even though it was probably popped long ago and the cheesiness balances out the sweetness well.
SunSpire Dark Sundrops, 10 oz. - Similar found for $7.09 (on sale here for $6.15)
These are basically like dark chocolate M&Ms but in pastel colors. You can just eat these straight from the bag or use them in the next batch of chocolate chip cookies in lieu of semi-sweet morsels. I haven't made cookies in quite a while so I'm super down to use these up in doing so! They also contain no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives so you can feel better about eating so many.
Chimes Ginger Chews, 1.5 oz. - Buy a 5 oz. bag for $3.49
Woohoo, these are spicy lil ginger chews! They're incredibly soft and really pack a lot of ginger flavor! If you like ginger chews, these are a great brand to go with. They're gluten-free and vegan so you can share them with your friends who have dietary restrictions too.
Hu Crunchy Mint Dark Chocolate, 2.1 oz. - Retail Value $5.69
This vegan and paleo chocolate bar is packed with crunchy mint and can be broken into thick little squares to enjoy. Just one block is enough to satisfy my sweet tooth even though I love minty chocolate. The company apparently also has a paleo-inpired restaurant in NYC as well.
Campfire Fruit Flavored Mini Marshmallows, 1 oz. - Retail Value $1.48
I don't know if I've eaten fruit flavored marshmallows before. They come in orange, lemon, strawberry, and lime. I surprisingly could tell what they were flavored and each one did taste different. These are fun for topping hot cocoa instead of using the plain white ones.
Campfire Mini Marshmallows, 16 oz. - Retail Value $4.09
More marshmallows! This bag is obviously much larger than the other one and will be perfect for making Rice Krispy squares at some point. The mini marshmallows will be easier to melt. These are light, fluffy and delicious.
Verdict: Degustabox had a lot of sweet snacks in it this month which I feel like is pretty standard for December. Everyone's sweet tooth comes out. There are some great items to usher in the cold weather and make comfort food and drinks with. Overall, it seems like a pretty decent deal for just under $20.00.
