Embroidered Heart Shape Ornament – Retail Value $3.00
The embroidered heart-shaped ornament is handmade by female artisans in Bangladesh. It takes the women one hour to make this ornament. The organization Others-Trade for Hope by the Salvation Army is the Salvation Army’s entrepreneurial effort, find out more here. There was another heart-shaped ornament that is red with a natural embroidery displayed on their website. The link I found was for a natural heart with red embroidered stars similar to the one I received. I haven’t decorated my tree yet, so I look forward to hanging this handmade creation.
Hand-tuned Rustic Bell – Estimated Value $12.60
This was a delight to have included in this box, the handmade craftsmanship is well done and beautifully pleasing to my eye. I don’t know why I’m so drawn to this item and it’s one of my favorite items in the box. Bell-making is an ancient Indian craft, traditionally used by farmers to identify their livestock. The bell is made from recycled metal, hand shaped, coated in powdered brass and copper before firing, and are hand-tuned to reveal a unique sound, each bell’s sound is different. The artisans are from the desert of Kutch region. The link above is close to the bell I received but the rope is a richer red and the beads are positioned in opposite spots and there are other handmade made bells available on their website. Also, the sound is not bothersome, a typical bell sound not too loud or soft just right. I need to find a home for this item.
Tic-Tac-Toe – Estimated Value $15.00
This sustainably harvested Indian rosewood travel tic-tac-toe game from Matr Boomie was designed exclusively for the Faithbox community. I received a printed cotton bag with the squares to place my wooden pieces to play the game; and the cotton bag is used to house the wooden pieces, that included six O’s and six X’s. This will go well when I have a girl’s night or a fun game for my Mom and me to play during my visit during Christmas.
Michael W.Smith Presents Strings of Christmas – Retail Value $9.95
This instrumental Christmas CD performed by a string quartet and co-produced by Michael W.Smith and master arranged by David Davidson will put you in the holiday mood. The array of Christmas classics such as “Joy To The World” and “Oh Holy Night” was mesmerizing, enchanting, and a delight to listen to as I typed this review.
The inside middle flap of the cover has info on the sequel to his gold-selling instrumental album “Freedom”. His anticipated album “Glory” came out November 22, 2011. The other side of the inside flap is information on Michael W.Smith and Friends Canada and New England Cruise, that was held July 7-14, 2012, with the following advertisements regarding his album and cruise which was years ago is an indicator this is an old CD release which explains why I didn’t find on his website.
Here’s a look at the back of the CD with a listing of 14 instrumental Christmas classics.
Jesus Calling For Christmas by Sarah Young – Retail Value $15.99
Sarah Young’s newest devotional collection from “Jesus Calling” prepares me for Advent and the Christmas season with fifty seasonal devotions and accompanying scriptures. The devotions I read spoke to my heart and brought tears, reading about my Savior’s birth to the joy of the news of Jesus’s birth. “Joy is a powerful antidote to fear!” “And the greater the Joy, the more effective the antidote.” I suffer from anxiety which is fear based and this quote spoke to me and gave me hope.
The illustrations are colorful, bright, and eye-catching.
Here Sara Young introduces us to “Jesus Calling for Christmas” and welcomes us to read both the devotional an accompanying scripture “slowly and thoughtfully”.
Here’s a glimpse of the accompanying scriptures.
Spiritual Inventory
A Faithbox exclusive, a spiritual inventory for a month. The spiritual inventory has two sides, on one side of the card it has, “my verse for the month,” “spiritual practice,” and a numerical chart to circle each day that I did something for my focus for the month. And on the back of the card “pay it forward,” “list three ways God has blessed me this month,” and “where am I on my spiritual journey.”
EveryDay Faith
Each month I receive Everyday Faith, and this month is all about “Wonder. The booklet is a monthly devotional with scriptures and quotes to guide me through the month, spiritually.
The Verdict: The December Faithbox has a value of $56.54, not including the Faithbox exclusive products, the spiritual inventory and everyday faith. The subscription is $25.00 plus $5 shipping that’s an incredible deal for this month’s box. The products got me in the holiday spirit and are preparing me for Advent and the Christmas season. My favorite items from the box are the handmade copper bell and instrumental CD from Michael W. Smith. The products were thoughtfully curated and make for an excellent holiday box. The sub delivered on its promise, to send devotionals, quotes, prayers, fair-trade, eco-friendly, and one-for-one products from companies who do good and have a positive impact.
