Jouer Cosmetics Mystery Matchbox December 2018 Review
Powder Highlighter in Citrine, Full-Size! Retail Value $24
This was the spoiled item for the box, which I think is a great idea for mystery boxes to do. If you know you like the spoiled item, chances are you won’t be disappointed. I wasn’t disappointed with this highlighter, which is pigmented, creamy, easy to blend, and SHINY! Citrine is a shimmering gold shade that can be applied sheer for a subtle glow or really packed on to make you seen from space. I’ve been needing a full-size highlighter and I am really happy with this one.
Here is the highlighter swatched!
Essential Jet Set Eyeshadow Palette, Full-Size! Retail Value $24
What, an eyeshadow palette? Score! It feels like a home run that this mystery box contained this six-shade eyeshadow palette, and to be honest I am surprised this wasn't the spoiled item! All of the shades are matte and blend really easy, and while my finger swatches don't look too impressive I was happy with how pigmented they were when applied directly to my eyelids with a brush. The brush included in this palette is great, too. One of the ends is stiff, pointy and narrow, which is perfect for lining your eyes. The palette doesn't say the name of the eyeshadows on it, but according to the website that orange-brown shade is called First Class and it is my favorite of the bunch.
Kitten Liner, Full-Size! Retail Value $18
This is a great jet-black eyeliner- it has a firm (but flexible) pen tip that allowed me to create one of my best eyeliner wings of 2019. Once this set, it doesn’t budge, which I learned the hard way after horribly messing up my wing on my left eye after nailing the right one.
High Pigment Lip Gloss in Sunset, Full-Size! Retail Value $17
I am not much of a lip gloss person but this may be what converts me. Sunset is a warm nude rose that looks great on fair skin but didn't look as good on my mom's tan skin when she tried to steal this from me. This is made with Jojoba Seed oil and Coconut oil so its hydrating on my lips, and it is incredibly comfortable to wear- no stickiness!
Long-Wear Crème Lip Liner in Nude, Full-Size! Retail Value $16
This lip liner is creamy and applied beautifully to my lips, but I wouldn’t call it “ultra-pigmented” the way it is described. The pigment is okay, but I did have to go over a few spots a few time to get the same color throughout. Other than that, I really liked this liner and the warm medium beige shade is a great neutral for a variety of lip looks.
Here are the swatches! From top to bottom we have the lip gloss, the lip liner, the eyeliner, and then the eyeshadow palette.
Here I am wearing everything in the box! I also got a foundation foil packet sample in this box, so that is the foundation I am wearing (and to be honest I am thinking about buying the full-size—I really like it!). I am wearing the light pink shade (second from the left) and the sepia shade (second from the right) on my eyes, and I lined my eyes with the Kitten Liner. I lined my lips with the lip liner before applying the lip gloss, and I am wearing the highlighter on my nose, cupids bow, cheekbones, and under my eyebrow arch. The only non-Jouer makeup I am wearing is my Benefit Gimme Brow and my Grande Cosmetics mascara (from my Boxyluxe!), and I am really happy with how this turned out. All of these makeup products will be used heavily in my rotation in the coming weeks!
The Verdict: This was my first real experience with Jouer Cosmetics and I loved it! All of the products are great quality for their price tag, and some of them could even be more affordable dupes of pricier counterparts. I also really love the gold packaging- it feels so chic and luxe. For the $45 price tag, I got five full-size items with a retail value of $99, and I feel like it was a great deal.
