Rescue Box December 2018 Review
This box is pretty reliably holiday-themed in months where there is a major holiday occurring, and that was true for December as well:
Many months, you’ll receive an information card with details about some of the items and the story of a rescued pet.
Redbarn Naturals Fetchers Candy Cane (1.95 oz) – Retail Value $8.05 (found here for $5.24)
One rule for this subscription is that you’ll get a lot of bully sticks. This is still a bully stick but is formed into the shape of a candy cane. This did not have an odor, even though it arrived unwrapped. (Also because it was unwrapped, I’d probably use it sooner rather than later.)
Candy Cane Cookie – Estimated Value $5
This didn’t have branding or any other identifying information so I used an estimated value for this type of item based on similar items I’ve seen in past Rescue Boxes. Unfortunately, because there are no ingredients listed and no place to find them, I don’t think it’s a good idea to give this one to Nyx due to her IBD.
Multipet Tuff Enuff Gingerbread – Retail Value $18 (found here for $10)
This squeaks so it is annoying, and it has reinforced edges so it is durable. It will take a while for Nyx to damage it enough for me to take it away, but for now, she is just having fun with it (supervised, of course).
Zippypaws Squeaky Plush Dog Toy Crinkle Santa (large) – Retail Value $9.99
This was Nyx’s “project” for this box – deciding how to destroy Santa. At first, she was quite interested in pulling the white all off his cap, but then she focused on his nose instead. She also had fun pulling on its arms all by herself.
Lazy Dog Co. Holiday Treats: Muttcracker Sweets in Peanut Butter Chunk (5 oz) – Retail Value $5.99
These are wheat, corn, and soy free, although they do have oats. I can’t call them vegan because they incorporate some honey. They also have no animal proteins so they should work for most dogs with allergy and/or food sensitivity issues. This is a new brand for me and these may actually be hard to find as they are a holiday special edition and the holiday is over.
Here are some pictures of Nyx with the Santa Claus toy. Although you see her going after the ball on its hat, the weak point was apparently the nose, since that’s what she destroyed first.
Verdict: I calculated a value of around $47 for the December Rescue Box. One of these values was an estimate based on my past experience with this box, but I think everything is generally in order. Nyx loved the toys quite a lot and I felt the overall mix of items was appropriate while also sticking nicely to the Christmas theme.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first box might be a welcome box. It is pretty close to the end of December, and your first box would be received in January.
