Accio! “The Marauders” January 2019 Review
The info card for this box is always an “issue” of the Daily Prophet, and it explains all the delights about to be discovered within. It looks like they made a little change to the paper it’s printed on, to something a little bit thinner. To be honest, I liked the cards they’ve printed on in the past, but I can totally understand this move as a possible cost-saving measure! This month’s theme is “The Marauders,” also known as James Potter, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black. I have some conflicted feelings about young James’ moral fiber, and of course, Peter is the worst, but I’ve always been touched by the notion that three wizards came together in magic to support their werewolf friend. I read an embarrassing amount of fan fiction about these guys, so I’m super excited to check the items out!
Animagi Pawprints Tee Shirt - Listed Value $25
I think this box is in a pretty solid rhythm of a tee-shirt every other month, which is awesome because I always need tee shirts for the gym! I really, really like this month’s; it’s such a cool design that includes the Latin names for the Animagi’s forms; rat, dog, and stag. They also included the Latin name for werewolf, which I deeply enjoyed. I’m also obsessed with the jewel-tone of this tee shirt!
Mischief Managed Pencil Set - Listed Value $2
How charming are these pencils? They remind me of grade school; I’m certain I had a set with my own name on them as a kid. I still do use pencils whenever I’m tinkering with an art project - one of my favorite parts of my house is the old-school, cranking pencil sharpeners that were installed in our basement! I can’t wait to put these into my normal rotation.
Mischief Makers Pencil Pouch - Listed Value $6
I’ve mentioned many times that I really love little pouches like this to stay organized. I’m not usually a very organized person, but I’ve learned to hack my brain, and by grouping items together in little pouches, I can lay my hands on things pretty easily! This Accio!-exclusive pouch would be great for pencils, as it arrived in the box, but this is big enough that I actually think it would be great for my luggage. I might make a little first aid kit out of this with travel bottles of pain reliever, antacids, my favorite OTC flu remedy, and a bunch of my favorite throat lozenges!
We Solemnly Swear Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10
Muggleborn Sisters strikes again with a really clever design of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs! I see a lot of enamel pins, but this is such a nice fresh design, and is really beautiful, even if you don’t know much about the Potter-verse. I love the limited use of color here; the design relies beautifully on silhouette and line, which makes the nickel-plating really pop.
Magical Productivity Pad - Listed Value $5
I am a huuuuge fan of a solid to-do list; I’ve even been guilty of jotting down things I’ve already done, just to have the satisfaction of crossing them off the list! I like that this pad is so customizable, and the phrase is so funny to me. I really do swear, I’m getting stuff done!
Marauder’s Map Calendar - Listed Value $16
This is by far the cleverest item I’ve seen from this box in a long time. I would’ve been disappointed if I hadn’t seen anything in this box that alluded to the Marauder’s Map, but I would’ve never thought of a calendar. I’ve loved these handcrafted goods from Ardently Crafted in the past, and I love that this can be used, well, forever! The dial wheels are so well-crafted, and I love that it has little feet in case it would be well-put on a desk. My husband and I are currently trying to remodel our spare room to an all-Harry Potter theme, and this is crazy-perfect! I may actually put it in a glassless frame and hang it on the wall.
Verdict: I solemnly swear that I was pleased with this Accio! box! The theme was unexpected, but something I really enjoyed. I loved that the items were so useful; the pencils and notepad will be great additions to my desk, I can’t wait to take the pouch on the road, and the pin and calendar are going to look awesome in my spare room when it’s all finished. I loved that all the items were so perfectly aligned with the theme, and, as usual, felt like they were created by insiders to the fandom, who love it as much as I do!
This month's listed value is $65 which exceeds the $49.98 monthly cost ($39.99 plus $9.99 shipping). I love that these items are all handmade from small companies, and the deep fandom knowledge really adds to the box’s value!
