BoxyCharm is a full-size beauty and makeup subscription box. Boxyluxe is a new once-a-quarter upgrade option you can add to your existing $21-a-month Boxycharm subscription. So for an additional $28.99, you’ll get the Luxe items, and be paying a total of $49.99 for that quarterly box.

Now, on to the items!

VIOLET VOSS HG – PRO Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $45

This is one of my favorite palettes of 2018! Great pigment, warm colors, a mix of shimmers + mattes, and the formula is easy to blend, too!

Plus there are just so many shades! (Two wrists worth!)

Here are the shades swatched:

Wander Beauty Wanderess Dusk to Dawn Palette - Retail Value $26

This palette includes three pressed powder shades that can function as both blush/bronzer/highlighter and as eyeshadow.

All shades have some subtle shimmer to them, but the City Lights shade has the most sparkle. Here are all the shades swatched:

I found them easy to blend, and perfect for a travel-friendly blush/highlighter palette.

And the last swatch on my wrist is this next item:

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Instafamous – Retail Value $20

This sheer lip gloss has a high shine and lots of holographic shimmer – it’s gorgeous! I love this as a lip topper over my liquid lipstick, and I have to give it bonus points for the cupcake scent!

LUXIE Rose Gold Complete Face Brush Set - Retail Value $65

All BoxyLuxe subscribers will receive this item.

I love Luxie brushes and I always need new makeup brushes, so this is hands down one of my favorite items in the box!

532 Round Top Blender

This brush is densely packed and slightly rounded so it's perfect for applying foundation.

522 Tapered Highlighting

This brush is ideal for applying highlighter and not overdoing it - it's less densely packed.

680 Pro Precision

Another densely packed brush that gives you more precision than the general foundation brush. This can be for getting more control in hard to reach areas of your face, of for contouring.

229 Tapered Blending

This is great for blending out your crease.

213 Eye Shading

This brush is ideal for precise eyeshadow application.

221 Flat Definer

You can use this brush for applying eyeliner, and I love it for matching the eyeshadow on your lid to your lash line.

201 Brow and Lash Spoolie

Pretty self-explanatory - designed for brushing out brows and separating lashes.

160 Lip Brush

Lastly, we have this lip brush that has it's own case that turns into the handle when in use.

Crimes of Beauty GLAM AF Wristlet (+ Charger) - Retail Value $22.50

All BoxyLuxe subscribers will receive this item.

This wristlet features a zip closer, one inner open pocket, and a fabric lining. Here it is in hand to give you a better sense of scale:

And this wristlet is part of a set. It also includes this phone charger:

This works for both Android and iPhone devices.

FYI - there have been reported issues with this charger. (You can get a replacement battery here.)

PYT Mini Straightener - Retail Value $75

All BoxyLuxe subscribers could pick between this item or a SUVA palette.

This mini straightener comes with a little case, too:

Inside is the cutest little straightener!

There are .5 inch ceramic plates that heat up to 400 degrees F. (There are no heat control settings though - you just get one temperature.)

This measures about 6 inches long - so it's small enough to fit into a purse/backpack. Great for travel, touch ups, etc.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream - Retail Value $88.40

This cream is designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, improve hydration and firm skin.

Elemis is a quality + pricey skincare brand, so I was happy to see this included in the box! The cream absorbs almost immediately with a smooth, matte finish. The scent lingered a bit for me, but I didn't mind it, and I love how this makes my skin feel.

Grande Mascara Lash Boosting Formula - Retail Value $25

I've sampled this mascara before, and it's not my favorite. It gave my lashes good length + definition but lacked volume. (And if I'm wearing mascara, I want major lashes!)

Spongelle Body Wash Infused Buffer in Blossom Bliss - Retail Value $20

If you aren’t already familiar Spongelle Sponges, they are pretty amazing. They are infused with body wash, and the sponge is firmer than your typical bath pouf, so you get exfoliation added in, as well. (And this sponge should last you for about 14 washes!) They are pretty scented too, so they make your whole bathroom smell good!

Verdict: The total retail value of this box is $386.90! I think that's amazing for a $49.99 box! I love that Boxycharm included a full brush set too! Just about every item in this box is a win, so I'm very happy with the value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but you can claim a spot for the March BoxyLuxe box by upgrading your Boxycharm subscription in your account section.

I got the exact same box (but a pink straightener). I think it’s a great box (though I really wanted that Pretty Vulgar setting powder) – but it didn’t make me want to stay subbed to boxycharm. With ipsy only charging $25 for similar quality, I think it’s more worth it. The Wander palette, mascara, and lipgloss were a total miss for me.

Violet Voss, where have you been all my life? Now that I’ve tried the HG palette, I need more VV in my life. Definitely the star of the box for me. I got the straighetner and really liked it…for a week until it stopped working altogether. The one I got in my Cult Crushes is still going though.

As my no buy year started the day after Christmas I was very happy to get this box and then cancel all together. I am swapping the straightener and the Elemis but everything else was great.

I used the Violet Voss pallet this morning for the first time and maybe I just chose too many neutral colors but I had to go over it multiple times because the color wasn’t there. I had even used the Mac Fix+ on my brush and still didn’t get much color.

With Violet Voss palettes, you hsve to break through the top layer if that makes sense.

Thanks! I’ll keep working with it. I do love the colors.

LANic

I was also disappointed in the pigmentation, especially since it’s such a beautiful palette.

I must be the only one not impressed with the Violet Voss palette. I didn’t feel it was very pigmented at all.

How cool is the lip brush that you can cover up? I have never seen that kind. I need a pack of just lip brushes!

OMG! This was my first Boxy Lux and I was so floored with everything I got! I almost felt like I was getting more than I deserved. Best box ever of all time! I did get the powder and it is my new favorite. Since I have super thick hair i new not to ask for the flat iron. Heard complaints about the chemical smell of the brushes. Turns out it was just the rubber packing material holding the brushes in the box. No smell on the actual brushes. Unbelievable Christmas box!

I remeber that Joe (boxycharm ceo) told that no matter what you choose – palette or flat iron – it won’t matter on what you receive – blush palette or setting powder. But I haven’t seen anybody with powder and iron in one box. I really wanted that setting powder, if I knew, I would choose palette to have chance for getting Pretty vulgar

I am still waiting for this box! It seemingly got lost in the shipping mess that is FE Smartpost; this happened over a month ago. That’s not Boxy’s fault…but their response and response time has been less than stellar. They said I needed to try to track it down myself…which I did…but after multiple calls and chats with no luck FEx told me it wasn’t even trackable due to the point at which it went missing, and that it was Boxy’s responsibility to ship me a new one. More emails back and forth and Boxy agreed to…but couldn’t commit to sending me the choice item I’d selected and received confirmation for (the mini flat iron), which was the only reason I signed up in the first place. They also said that since they “ship in waves” it wouldn’t go out until the next batch, so wouldn’t ship for 5-10 more business days. (I get that they ship their boxes in waves…but given that this box went out to everyone around 6 weeks ago now, and is no longer even available, I’m not exactly sure how that fits this particular situation…)So it’s now been almost a month since I reached out to them; they just shipped the box, but I don’t even know if it is what I ordered, and it won’t be here for about another week. I contrast their response to the response from another sub where I had a similar shipping issue…the other sub took one look at the tracking, saw there was indeed an issue, and put a replacement box in the mail the next day…

Is this box real? Probably the best curation ever. And that value! I bought the Violet Voss palette at full price.

BCGIRL

I know..wish I had seen this one, I would have grabbed one for sure.

Reply ButtonReply

Carly

Definitely real. I also got virtually the same box except a different mascara and lip gloss color.

Irina

So real) I got absolutely same box. Only my flat iron is pink

December was my first BoxyLuxe, I kept the brushes and Elemis, gifted most of the rest. I really wanted the VV palette, but my daughter was thrilled with it. It was a great box, if it hadn’t been Christmas I would have kept it all to myself. 😈😇

Val

I gave my VV palette to my daughter too. I tried to buy it a year ago for her at Christmas but it was sold out. I was so happy to see it as a spoiler for Boxyluxe.

Jennie

We got the exact same box. I have been on the fence about this box and still think the initial launch was better, but your review has made me look at some of the items in a better light. thanks, Liz!

I was blown away with the box. They packed in so many items that weren’t just no name brands. I kept some for myself and gave away a few things. For once my expectations were exceeded by a sub.

This was my first BoxyLUXE and I will definitely will be continuing with the March subscription…we will see after that (I am pretty at capacity for makeup right now). But I love Boxy, it is the best value out there!

The VIolet Voss is definitely one of my favorite palettes ever! And I’ve been wanting to try the Spongelle for a long time. The brush set made a great Christmas gift.

Belle

Loved my BL box! Was such a nice Xmas gift to myself 😉 Felt it was better than the initiAL launch box and definitely worth the price. Can’t wait for the next one. Only con was the strong chemical smell of the brushes upon opening them… probably just need to be aired out but definitely not good to have such a strong chemical smell. But love the softness of the Luxie brushes.
