GlobeIn "The Brew Box" January 2019 Review
Each box from GlobeIn contains a booklet that talks more about the theme for the box and the items inside. This little booklet is almost as valuable to me as the items inside the box because it gives background on each piece and often gives the names and shows photographs of the artisans who made them! I absolutely love knowing more about each item and the hands that crafted it.
Just a heads up, since there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items, so I'm going off the prices given in this Globein spoilers post for items I couldn't find online.
Ceramic Hand-Painted Coffee Dripper, Tunisia - Retail Value $25.00
Ceramic Hand-Painted Handleless Mug, Tunisia - Retail Value $15.00
It wouldn't be a brew themed box without an amazing mug, and this month we also get a matching pour-over piece that allows you to brew your morning coffee without the coffee maker. Simply place the dripper on top of the mug, line with a filter, add coffee, and pour hot water on top. I personally find it slower, more mindful, and much less wasteful than all those Keurig pods. These beautiful pieces were handmade by artists in Tunisia at Le Souk Ceramique. This studio has been in operation since 1997 and employs skilled artisans who benefit from the company's safe workspace, fair compensation, and numerous benefits including maternity leave. I love the handpainted design and beautiful blue colors on this mug, and I can sip from it knowing that the people who made it are being treated well while continuing their beautiful ceramic traditions.
Beaded Olive Wood Spoon, Kenya - Retail Value $15.00
We all have random things we are super into. Wooden spoons are one of mine. I love them! This love stems from one single cherished stew spoon that has passed down through the women of my family for generations. This weathered wooden spoon seems to add some old fashioned magic to whoever wields it in the kitchen! This little spoon is a welcome addition to my small collection. Crafted by Judith of Bemos Crafts, this spoon has a beautifully beaded handle which sets it apart from any of my others. Judith is a self-taught and very skilled beadworker who uses her gifts to provide income for her family and pay for her children's schooling. I absolutely loved reading about her in the booklet, and adore this spoon even more, knowing that it was made by this strong woman.
Barista Milk Frothing Pitcher, India - Retail Value $20.00
As a former barista, I am used to the boring and dull stainless milk frothing pitchers so common in most coffee shops. This beautiful steel version has such a beautiful punch of color! This pretty piece was made by Dilshad, an Indian craftsman who learned metalwork from his father. He and his brother have worked together for 13 years out of his home workshop. With the proceeds from his work, he eventually hopes to open a school to help his neighbors rise from poverty.
Dean's Beans Java Drops, Peru - Retail Value $5.00
I always feel so excited when I get any sort of chocolate covered espresso bean in a sub! From our booklet, I learned that the beans inside this delicious chocolate were grown on the farm of a woman named Esperanza Castilla. She was one of Peru's first agronomists and one of Peru's first female cooperative managers! Basically, she is amazing. She runs her own coffee farm and devotes much of her time to furthering rural women's rights. These are some special beans!

The Verdict: GlobeIn is always so inspiring to me. I absolutely love learning about craftsmen from all over the world, and this knowledge always gives these wonderful items even more value. The booklet this month gave voices to each of them and I enjoyed reading their stories so much. The coffee mug and dripper set is so beautiful and well made. I look forward to taking an extra few mindful minutes in the morning while I brew my coffee. The beaded spoon is my favorite item this month and it might end up on my kitchen wall with some other displayed spoons instead of actually being used. The milk frother is so cheery and bright and doubles as a wonderful little flower vase. The chocolate beans were tasty and energizing; the perfect 3 pm pick me up! Based on the retail values provided by GlobeIn, this box has a retail value of $80, which is great for a sub with so much heart!
