My comments don’t seem to be posting – so sorry if this is a duplicate post. It has to be the third time I’ve tired!!!

Anyway, this article explains Glansaol’s (Julep parent company) bankruptcy better than any other one I’ve read.

https://wwd.com/beauty-industry-news/beauty-features/behind-glansaols-bankruptcy-1202939765/

I am not sure why Geekwire reported that sales were up – this article contradicts that:

“Glansaol said in court papers that its brands were struggling with increased competition that led to an excess of inventory. The company blamed a downturn in both brick-and-mortar and broadcast shopping, evolving consumer demographics and “changing trends” for its struggles. It also said that the brands had “historically relied on their major customers’ projections of future demand, which ultimately proved overly optimistic.”

Those sales dips saddled Glansaol with an oversupply, forcing the business to sell products at “steep markdowns” and even destroy certain products, according to court papers. It also caused a spike in warehousing and logistics costs.”

This makes me wonder just how old Julep’s stock is…? I’m not fussed about buying a nail polish that was manufactured 2-3 years ago, but what about the stuff you put on your face? Ugh…

My guess is that once the sale is done, and operations start back up in New York, the subscription box will no longer exist, the secret store will no longer exist, Jules will no longer exist, and the great sales we’ve come to expect will no longer exist. We’ll be paying the Ulta and Nordstrom prices on the website.

Also, Julep laid off 100-ish of their 140-ish employees. Does that mean they have around 40 people left in the warehouse to deal with late January/early February sales? Makes me nervous about this month…wondering if I should just skip and forget about my Jules….

Should be interesting to see what happens in the coming months…

They usually always do a mystery grab bag. Of 10 polishes for $20. I’d be all over that. But sale prices don’t seem like a great deal

I’m surprised there’s not more on sale.

I’m not sure if everyone is aware, but Julep has gone bankrupt. Their phone lines are no longer operating and they’re not answering emails. Nobody should be ordering a new subscription right now!

All seems well with their website (and obviously their marketing team) but they’ve laid off a ton of staff so zero customer service. Last months boxes were delayed for a lot of people – but things still seem to be moving along… slowly…

I ordered one last box to use up my Jules. Should be interesting to see if I actually get it…

Thanks for the information, I had not heard that. I ordered some of my favorite whipped lipsticks in a set and the nail polish for my zodic sign just in case I decide to cancel. I skipped this month which I’ve been doing since August and will see how things go from here.

A bankruptcy does not always mean dissolution, they could be doing a re-organization or the BK court approved a sale as someone mentioned they were purchased by another organization. It’d be an interesting read to see what they filed as far as chapter as well as the claims made for repayment, did they hit a sudden fiscal issue or had they been in a slide for awhile? The brand has expanded to alot of retailers so I can’t see them losing money directly but you never know I suppose.\

I went with a box thsi month so between that and my birthday Jules I can get a free box the following month. If all goes well that is.

I’ve tried to mention this to Liz, but email has gone ignored. They did not even have a polish collection this month, and no announcement to choose your box items, by MSA. I haven’t gotten a box in a while. Last time I considered it, they had done away with the only item I actually wanted (the brow powder), which was a relatively new product. They said they weren’t getting it back, and that they were going to come out with a new brow product. She wasn’t sure, but she thought it was going to be a pencil…. I doubt they will come out with anything at all.

It would be great to get some answers. Today is the last day to customize your box (and use up Jules, if you so desire) and though I was planning on skipping this month, I’d sure like to know if anything will be changing or if there will be no new launches. I THOUGHT this month was weird with so few offerings and no new collection, now I know why…

LB

I rely on the reminder from MSA to go in and make my monthly selections so I almost missed this month…I just happened to remember yesterday. I thought that was odd. I had no clue there was anything else going on, though. To give MSA the benefit of the doubt, they try to confirm things and get more info before posting so maybe that’s what they were trying to do but aren’t getting any responses either??

Anna

They’re number rings through to the same leave a voicemail or email support message it has for a while. I sent an email to support last week and had no issues.

Thanks for the info. I will have to look into this more. I hope they dont really go out of business as this was one of my favorite subs. I had no idea. I just remembered yesterday to make my monthly selections since I didn’t see a reminder here like I normally do. I skipped but I might reconsider since I have 2 boxes left in my sub…

According to an article in GeekWire, the CEO says Julep will continue under new ownership as their sales have tripled in the last 2 years.

Jules

I read in a news article that the parent company went bankrupt, but Julep is doing well apparently so they sold it to new ownership. They are relocating and hiring new people, so I guess that’s why there are some delays with customer service, boxes, etc. Hopefully they get back into the swing of things soon.

PAULA

They’re being sold at auction tomorrow. All Seattle operations will be closed up for good by February. I’m not sure why a company would file for bankruptcy if their sales have tripled??? Maybe the salons and Seattle operations have been run poorly since Jane sold Julep?

This article explains the future plans for Julep (to be run out of NY and operations combined with 2 other beauty companies) but I’m guessing they will be phasing out the subscription box/secret store/Jules and mostly concentrating on store marketing and regular website sales, like the all the other beauty brands…i guess we’ll see!

Thanks for that info. I was trying to order a new sub. last night and things were just not working out. I guess that’s a sign that it wasn’t meant to be.

Ohh thanks for the reminder! I sent an email two days ago with no response, and they are usually good with the 24hr turnaround. I will probably take this box and use my jules as well.
Even though I have 1150 and most items I want are 1200 lol.

Link doesn’t work and I can’t find the sell on the website. Guess I just saved myself some money.
