Korean Snacks Box January 2019 Review
This month's snacks come in the silk bags that we usually see from this sub. I love that they include a different color/patterns each month! The insert also gives an overview of the two Korean New Years. There is also a list of the included items this month. There is no indication of nutritional info or allergens, so if you have food sensitivities, proceed with caution. I don't so let's dive in!
Goraebab
These little crisps were all in different sea creature shapes. I always appreciate when a snack is both tasty and adorable. They were super light, hollow with air, and so crunchy! I couldn't quite place the flavor but it was salty and had herbs. The box also opens up into a little game where you find all the animal shapes. I feel like this is the Koren version of Goldfish, but I have to say I like this MUCH better!
Wanggumteuri
The worm shapes of these gummies is a little more detailed than their American counterparts. I actually find the flat detailed tail and obvious segmentation rather creepy crawly, but the candies themselves were tasty! I love anything gummy, so these were a win for me and reminded me very much of normal American gummy worms.
Chaltteok Pie
These are like a Koren version of a MoonPie! Smaller and less layered, these little cakes are covered in dark chocolate and have a chewy filling that doesn't have a strong flavor. These were mild and really hit the spot with a cup of tea!
Chamssal Yakgwa
I have never had anything quite like this traditional Korean snack. They have a very odd texture, kind of gummy, or waxy, but also like a dense cake. The flavor was mild and kind of reminded me of sweet potatoes, though this snack is made of rice, honey, and ginger. I actually really liked them after I got over how confused I felt after eating them the first time. They would be a great snack for someone who prefers their sweets to be more subdued.
Saekomdalkom Mini
These were delicious! I love fruit flavored candy and these are both sweet and sour, which is a perfect combo for my palette. I only wish there has been more of these chewy candies this month.
Butter Waffles
These were another favorite this month. They tasted like waffles and sugar cones! I enjoyed them with hot tea and an evening in. They were dense, crunchy, and just sweet enough!
Verdict: Korean Snacks Box had some tasty treats this month! Generally, with snack boxes from other countries, there is always something I don't quite enjoy or understand, but I have to say that every snack this month was fun and delicious. I also thought it was a well-curated mix of both traditional and newer snacks. My favorites were the fruit chews and I need more of those STAT!
