Mommy Mailbox December 2018 "Oh What Fun" Review

Each box comes with a card detailing the month’s products and brands. The theme this month is “Oh What Fun” and instead of having a featured blogger, this month they are featuring items from the lifestyle brand, Occasionally Made.

Seed Bead Circle Necklace by Occasionally Made - Retail Value $15.95 (found here for $9.57)

This necklace is a really fun piece and I love the gold and black. It definitely gives me New Year's Eve vibes with the color scheme and I think it would be the perfect accent for a little black dress. While the necklace is long and it seems like a statement piece, the colors combined with the delicate seed beads make it feel like more of a versatile piece that I could wear for a more subtle look, too.

Button Gloves with SmartScreen Fingertips by Occasionally Made  - Retail Value $13.95 (found here for $8.37)

These gloves feel very old fashioned to me, especially with the red piping and matching fabric button accents, but these feature a modern twist with the touchscreen fingertips. They are nice and soft with their fleece lining and they will be nice to wear with a dressier outfit. I have nicer gloves, but none that are touchscreen friendly, so I'm happy to have these to use for special occasions.

Metallic Hand Clutch by Occasionally Made - Retail Value $21.95 (found here for $13.17)

The last Occasionally Made item in the box was this cute metallic clutch. I love the color of this, it's sort of a coppery- pewter, and that fun strap detail makes it feel unique. This bag doesn't feature any inner pocket though, which is surprising since that seems to be a staple for almost any handbag. This is another piece that felt like a perfect New Year's Eve accessory and I thought it was a nice inclusion in this month's box. One gripe I do have about this bag is that it came with this incredibly awful odor that I can only describe as seaweed or fishy. Yuck. I think it's because of the paper that it was packed in and the scent is already fading, so I am just hoping it fades enough for me to be able to use this bag because it is nice!

Here are all of the Occasionally Made items in use; the necklace, gloves, and clutch, so you can get a sense of scale.

Ad Astra Apothecary Peppermint Lip Balm - Estimated Value $3

This peppermint lip balm is one of the included items that seems essential for a winter box. This one is all natural and features lots of moisturizing ingredients like sunflower and soybean oil, beeswax and both cocoa and shea butter. It looks like their website isn't currently in service though so I had to estimate the value of this one.

Long Grove Confectionery Co. Milk Chocolate Mints - Estimated Value $9.75 (buy 4 boxes for $39.00)

The last essential for a December box was this cute and festive box of milk chocolate mints. I love the ribbon and bell on top! These would make a cute little gift or stocking stuffer. The box contained four decent sized chocolates featuring a hard outer layer of chocolate with a softer layer of chocolate inside that had just a slight hint of mint. They reminded me of Andes mints but a little less subtle on the mint flavor. They were a delicious treat for sure!

Verdict: I think that this month's Mommy Mailbox was a perfect curation for a December box, but it felt slightly out of place receiving it in mid- January. Hopefully, subscribers received theirs earlier than I received my box so that they could use their new accessories for the holidays! I love that we received such practical and cute accessories as well as a few essentials like the lip balm and chocolates. It felt like this box was well curated and everything went well with the "Oh What Fun" theme. I estimate the total retail value of this box to be $64.60 which is great for a $33.95 box. Even taking into account the sale prices, you are still getting a greater value than the cost of the box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the January box. From Mommy Mailbox:

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I am still waiting for my mystery box bought almost 4 months ago. I wanted so much to have this as part of my line up, but CS answered 2 of my emails, before December, and hasn’t answered one since. I am SO DISAPPOINTED and discouraged EVERYONE from subscribing to this box. 40$ down the drain….

I am in the same boat . They were answering emails before . They sent me tracking in November and it never moved . I have since emailed them twice and asked for a refund since I see my box isn’t arriving and they do not answer . I wish I listened to people on that mystery box post that said buyer beware . So really BUYER BEWARE !

This was my final box after 2 1/2 years of subbing. I just couldn’t take the shipping problems/excuses and usually subpar curation. I had to contact them in January to remind them to send this December Box. I do think that this month is an improvement over last months paper napkins and straws but the holiday-ish items don’t do much good when you receive them in the middle of January. It’s a shame because I have received some items in the past that I’ve really liked.

I agree, I had to cancel too. Just too many issues. I hope they improve and maybe I will go back. I did like this box more than others this year…

To get rid of the smell, use unscented dryer sheets. Ball a bunch of them up, stick into the interior. If that doesn’t work, and you have access to unscented kitty litter, put some kitty litter in a big zip lock, put a saucer in the bag, put open purse on top of saucer, seal, and wait a few days.
