Orglamix December 2018 “Comfort + Joy” Review
This month’s theme is “Comfort + Joy.” Think fall, spices, and the like. Let’s see how Orglamix incorporated that theme into the month’s items:
The box came with an information card detailing the items and theme for December. It sometimes also lists ingredients, which is nice since these items aren’t typically available in their online shop.
Shimmer + Shine Makeup Bag – Listed Value $9
This is generously sized (it’s honestly kind of amazing how they managed to tuck this inside the box as I couldn’t get it back afterward – that’s some careful packaging). I also find it pretty festive. I keep makeup bags around for various uses (rarely for carrying makeup but maybe to hold extra pens or contact lenses in my purse, etc.) but I don’t subscribe to any of the boxes that regularly send them, so I’m not overflowing with them, and this is nicer than a lot of the free ones anyway. (You’ll regularly receive some kind of tool or accessory, anything from a brush to a cleansing mitt to an aromatherapy locket in this subscription.)
Eye Gloss Brow + Lash Serum – Listed Value $15
I think maybe I am not the target market for this product – it is described as conditioning and moisturizing brows in the information booklet. But, like, my eyebrows are already kind of oily and when I put this on it just ended up all over my glasses, which was almost certainly not the intended effect. If you have super dry skin on your face, though, I can imagine your brows get dry as well and under those circumstances, I think this could help.
Lavender Avocado Melt Replenishing Sleeping Mask – Listed Value $34
All right, this is more my style. I do like to use either a sleeping mask or a really thick moisturizer at night, and this was compatible with my skin, as well (didn’t cause any breakouts – so far – or irritation). It also has a light fragrance that I like and it is dye-free plus my skin was very soft in the morning.
Calming Lavender Mist – Listed Value $14
I’m going to be honest, I just don’t understand why I would want to spray my face with anything (maybe because I never spend time outside?). And yet, these mists are incredibly popular, judging by how often I receive them in subscription boxes. Since this is clear, I’ve just been spraying it on my pillow before bed so I can smell the lavender as I drift off to sleep.
Comfort + Joy Essential Oil Roll On – Listed Value $18
Orglamix will usually send a custom essential oil-based fragrance blend (it may be a solid perfume or a roll-on like this) each month. The information booklet promotes this one’s medicinal properties (fighting stress, warding off fatigue, curbing appetite), which is something that, as a scientist, I just don’t buy into. It has kind of a piney/citrusy/wintry scent that can work as a fragrance, though, and that is good enough for me.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $90 for the December Orglamix subscription box. The items this month were all exclusive for this box, so I had to rely a lot on the information card but they seem in line with similar items from the Orglamix shop and from past boxes. The clear winner for me was the sleeping mask. I guess the gloss didn’t end up being right for my skin/hair type, but overall I would say that I felt like this was a nourishing, moisturizing, seasonally appropriate group of items that did fit pretty well with the “Comfort + Joy” theme.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this was December’s box and they say they ship around the 10th (in practice, it may be a week or two after that before the box actually ships, although this month’s box was received somewhat later than usual). You’d probably get the January box as your first one.
Value Breakdown: At $34.95 per box, here’s approximately what you are paying per item:
- Bag $3.50
- Gloss $5.83
- Mask $13.20
- Mist $5.44
- Roll-on $6.99
