UmaiBox December 2018 Review
This month's box has a "Christmas Party" theme!
Let's try some snacks!
Langue de chat - Sasa-dango
This is a little wafter with chocolate inside. The outside kind of tastes like green tea. It was very mild and not overly sweet. I was tasty with
Yakisoba ya san taro
You know the little bits of broken ramen in the bottom of the ramen packet that you snack on dry? These are basically those, but with a ton of flavor! I really liked this unusual little snack.
Wasabi Nori
I will try many things for you, my beloved Readers, but not these. I have fallen for these before. They are little chips made of fish and soy sauce. They are SO FISHY. These are wasabi flavored, so I imagine they are very spicy, but I am leaving them up to your imagination.
Umaibo Chocolat Christmas
This snack has the texture of Taco Bell's Cinnamon Twists but without the cinnamon or sugar. It is a very airy tube that is covered in milk chocolate.
Fugashi Christmas
This was a slightly odd, very dry, crunch chocolate snack. It almost had a foam texture. It was actually a little bland.
Umaitama Calcium
These cream puffs are kind of like super dry eclair balls. They weren't bad, they were just very dry and didn't have much flavor. The center was a chocolate cream.
Nerunerunerune Soda
I love when I get any sort of Japanese candy kit! This one makes a tangy foamy goo that was just delicious! You add a wee bit of water and two different powders and swirl them together. When they are thoroughly mixed you have a very dense mouse that is sticky and so tasty! The final pouch has colorful candies to add to your creation then enjoy!
Watagashi Ramune
I love ramune flavored anything, so I really enjoyed this cotton candy. It is only for sale during the winter and marketed as a sweet melting snowlike snack.
Super Dragon Ball Heroes Snack 3 - Curry
These corn snacks have an airy texture and super delicious and mild curry flavor. They also come with a surprise DBZ card!
Butamen Chips
These pork flavored chips were a strong NOPE for me. I do not eat pork and these had such a strong pork smell that I couldn't try more than one. They were crispy, super salty, and very porky.
Shimi Choco Corn - White
I absolutely loved these little white chocolate covered stars! The stars themselves are these darling puffed corn chips. They were light and airy, and not overly sweet.
Calpis Soda
I can't quite put my finger on the flavor of this drink, but I do like it! The description describes it as a mix of milk powder and lactic acid, which really doesn't sound like anything I would ever plan on drinking. The taste itself is kind of like yogurt? But its very light and carbonated. I really did enjoy it, though I have no idea what I just drank. I would drink it again!
Jaga Choco - White
Yes! These were so good! They were basically chocolate covered potato chips in an adorable tin. They were that sweet and salty combo that I just love in a snack.
Tongari Corn - Butter Shoyu
These are essentially Japanese Bugles. I loved Bugles as a kid, so I really loved this twist on the flavor. Light, salty, crispy!
Verdict: There was quite a variety of snacks in this month's UmaiBox. I loved some, I hated others, which is exactly what I expect from a snack box. I do wish there had been some gummy snacks, as those are my favorite! The top snacks for me this month would be the chocolate covered chips, the powder kit, and the white chocolate stars.
