Apocalyptic Beauty “Queen of Hearts” January 2019 Review
Apocalyptic Beauty included two information cards: the first lists all the items included and all of their ingredients, and the second is a business card listing all of their social media.
January’s theme is Queen of Hearts, and the shades sampled are anywhere from metallic pinks to deep reds. They also sent a very bold, red glitter this month, woo-hoo!
Their motto is “Stand beautiful amid the ruins.” --- fingers crossed!
Kiss of Distraction Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5
Kiss of Distraction is a bubblegum pink eyeshadow with lots of gold shimmer. The texture is very smooth, and when I used it wet it applied with a shiny metallic sheen, which I love!
Maneater Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5
Maneater is a metallic red shadow that applied like a dream. It was easy to build up pigment, and it didn’t stain my eyelids at all.
Dark Feminine Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5
Compared to the other two shadows, this one stuck out as a “boring” shade; however, when this shadow is applied wet, it makes a really pretty metallic liner.
Femme Fatale Blush Topper - Estimated Value $6
This product was listed as a blush or a blush topper, but it is so light I couldn’t imagine Femme Fatale working for anyone as a blush. It did, however, make a very pretty pale pink highlight!
Heart Beat-Down Glitter - Estimated Value $4.25
I love this glitter! Red hearts and hexagons and small circular flecks will be perfect for a fun Valentine’s Day look!
From left to right: Kiss of Distraction, Maneater, Dark Feminine, Femme Fatale & Heat Beat-Down.
I started off with a nude shadow base, then blended a nude shadow to set my base. I applied a rosy shadow all over my lid, then using an angled eyeliner brush I spritzed with water, I dipped into Maneater and shaped out an intense wing. I created a paste with Maneater and a drop of water on the back of my hand, and using a thin liner brush I applied the paste to my lid, filling in the wing I sketched out.
After both wings were filled in, I traced the edges with a silver eyeliner, then applied Kiss of Distraction over the silver. I then tightlined my upper and part of my lower lash line with Dark Feminine shadow. I then went back to the inner V of my eye and highlighted that area mixing Femme Fatale and Kiss of Distraction.
After my shadow was finished, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the Heart Beat-Down glitter! I applied a thin layer of NYX Glitter Glue under my winged liner and tried to find a central area to put a heart down. After the hearts were set, I dipped my dry fingertip into the glitter and created a nice polka dotted background for the hearts to steal the show. As my glitter set, I then used a small brush to apply Femme Fatale as the highlight on my cheeks.
I loved this cutesy look, and I plan on sporting it again for Valentine’s Day!
The Verdict: As always, I had a lot of fun experimenting with my new products from Apocalyptic Beauty. Typically, I am not into red or pink eyeshadows, but receiving these as a shadow trio and making them work together gave me some inspiration for a festive Valentine’s look that I really loved. I thoroughly enjoy exploring Apocalyptic Beauty’s products, so, per usual, I look forward to seeing how they curate February’s “Malevolent Mermaid” theme!
To Wrap Up:
Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. If you sign up after the 21st of each month, you will receive the following month’s box, subscriptions ship shortly after this date.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $12.50 (that includes shipping), and I received 5 items, which is like paying $2.50 per item. I received three eyeshadows, a glitter and a blush topper which added up to $25.25. I think that is a great value for such quality colors and performance!
