BirchboxMan The Start To Finish Skincare Kit Review
Here is the info sheet for the box.
FOREO LUNA™ play in Midnight – Retail Value $39
Ahhh, the crown jewel of the box. I have many a FOREO: the play, the fofo, and the luna. None of them, however, look quite as cool as this all black one. I love using this cleansing device because the silicone is naturally anti-bacterial, and the sonic vibrations gently exfoliate without being abrasive. The small size of this one means that it can easily be tossed in a gym bag or overnight bag, and it has enough power for 100 full cleansing routines. The only downside to this is that it is not rechargeable, so it can feel a tad wasteful (though I have had luck using ones with dead batteries to help me clean my makeup brushes). If you need a FOREO (or want to have a cool black one), you basically get it at a few dollars discount in this kit and everything else for free.
Menaji 911 Eye Gel, Full-Size! Retail Value $36
I am super happy that a full-size eye gel was also included in this box, especially because I have been looking for some new eye creams to add to my rotation. This gel instantly cools upon application, and it works to help puffiness while fighting the signs of aging. This is made with aloe, chamomile, and allantoin, and I had no issues with this irritating my temperamentally sensitive eyes. This wasn’t the most hydrating eye cream I have tried, but when it was layered with the rest of my skincare routine my eyes were just fine.
Jack Black Double-Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $2.82 (buy the full-size version for $48)
I hate the additional step of applying sunscreen after moisturizer, so these 2 in 1 products are always welcome into my life. This moisturizer was very lightweight and absorbed easily, and it didn’t leave me greasy the way some SPF products can. If you have dry skin you may need to layer this with a thicker moisturizer or face oil, but I was happy with how it performed for my combo/oily skin.
Daily Concepts Multi-Functional Charcoal Soap Sponge, Full-Size! Retail Value $10
So, the description on this says it is a deluxe-sized sample, but the packaging on my bar and the packaging for the full-size both say 1.60 oz. I am not complaining, because this soap sponge is awesome - I think I like it better than Spongelles! Where Spongelles are infused with body wash and are a big sponge, this is like a bar of soap embedded in the sponge. It is much firmer to hold, and this will last for 60(!!) uses. I like that I can control the level of exfoliation by how hard I scrub, and it leaves me feeling super fresh and clean. Also, does anyone else think the brand new sponge looks like a brownie?
Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash, 1 oz – Estimated Value $2.62 (buy the full-size version for $22)
Kiehl's! I love Kiehl's. Though this face wash says "gel cleanser for men" on the bottom, I don't really believe in gendered skincare products (though I can totally understand why some people may not be down to have neon pink products over their bathroom sink). This is made with caffeine and citrus extract, and it has a cooling sensation that is really refreshing- I can see why this is called "energizing." This face wash did a great job of actually washing my face, too- it completely removed my makeup in one go, and it felt great on my skin.
Wilma Schumann Skin Care | Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads, 2 pairs – Estimated Value $7.20 (buy a box of 5 pairs for $18)
These eye patches are a Birchbox staple, and I will never say no to receiving more. These hydrating eye gels are designed to hydrate and de-puff the area under your eyes good ingredients like collagen, allantoin, and hyaluronic acid. I suffer more from dark circles then I do fine lines or puffy eyes, but I still enjoyed these as a refreshing 20-minute treat that helped me to relax (anyone else carry a LOT of tension in their face? I find cooling masks to be really helpful with that!).
The Verdict: This was my first experience trying the discovery boxes from Birchbox Man, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I thought this kit was packed with great products, though the Foreo and the Menaji are the true stars. I was surprised by how much I liked that Daily Concepts sponge, but it really works well. Value-wise, Birchbox promised a value of $92 for this box and it actually has a total value of $97.64, so they came out ahead. For the $37 cost of the box, I definitely recommend giving this a try.
