Piibu Box January 2019 Review
DEARPACKER Black Ginseng Mask - Estimated Value $3.99 (Buy 2 for $7.99)
This was the mask I was most excited for this month, but I was actually underwhelmed by it. It was incredibly hard to apply, even for a gel style mask. It had no remarkable scent and was incredibly thin. It was a two-part mask but it refused to stick to my face and constantly slid down while I wore it, which was annoying. All that aside, my skin did look noticeably plumper after use and was very hydrated.
Innisfree My Real Squeeze Mask in Tea Tree - Retail Value $1.80
I have had a green tea, lime, and lemon version of this mask before, and I tend to like them all. This one had a mild tea tree scent and a thin watery serum. It left my face much less red after use and had no stickiness whatsoever. It also had just the right amount of serum, meaning none of it dripped down into my eyes, which was much appreciated, as tea tree tends to really burn an eyeball!
Berrisom Cocktail Recipe Mask in Peach Crush
Cocktail masks seem to be a regular occurrence in this box. I learned from last month's review that I shouldn't write them off as being gimmicky or ineffective. I actually liked this peach one because it felt super summery, and I am SO ready for summer. The smell is pure peach and booze, and the clear serum is lightweight and very hydrating. No stickiness here, just a really fun mask and happy skin.
Berrisom Cocktail Recipe Mask in Pina Colada - Retail Value $1.99
I don't like beachy or coconut scents, but if you do you will love this mask. It smells just like the drink it is named for, full of coconuts and pineapple. The serum seems to be very similar to its counterpart above, nonsticky, light, clear, and very moisturizing!
Dewytree Lemon Brightening Mask
Yes! Bring on even more summer fruits! Sometimes lemon masks remind me of kitchen cleaning agents, but this one is a true lemon, bright, sunny, and tart. Again, this one had a lightweight clear serum, though there was a little stickiness, but nothing a moisturizer couldn't fix. It did have a nice brightening effect on my skin, likely due to the lemon extract, which is a very mild exfoliant.
JAYJUN Multi-Vita Tone Up Mask - Estimated Value $4 (found here for $2.6)
This mask was a little boring. No real scent other than a faint single note that smelled a little watery and fresh. The serum was mostly clear but had a little creaminess to it. It did hydrate my skin and left no sticky feeling, but really nothing remarkable here.
BNBG Vita Genic Hydrating Jelly Mask
This gel mask was basically the jelly version of the one above: nothing really spectacular happening here in terms of scent, and no real skin difference for me aside from hydration. It did leave a film on my skin that I really hated, but I find that is a lot more common with the gel masks. I don't think I would use this one again.
Mengkou Beier Deer Mask
This was my favorite mask this month. I have no idea what flavor/scent it is meant to be, but wow this mask was a good one. I write down notes when I do a mask sub because they take me a few days and I don't ever want to forget my thoughts on each one. The notes I took on this one started with this statement in all caps, scribbled down in my notebook: "YES. SO SOFT AND WONDERFUL." If that isn't high praise I don't know what is. The mask itself had a great fit and the thick clear serum felt like velvet. It did leave me sticky, but I will forgive that.
Verdict: This month's Piibu Box was hit or miss for me, but they send so many masks this is too be expected. My favorite was by far the giraffe mask. It was incredible. I also loved the tea tree oil and the peach cocktail. The lemon was also quite memorable and calming. The duds for me were the kind of generic "vitamin" options, but I tend to like masks with obvious scents and flavors. I was let down by both the gels, but I greatly appreciate that this sub includes multiple mask types consistently. While I was unable to find all of the mask's values, I felt like this month at the very least met the box cost, and of course, the whole model is super convenient for those of us that love hard to find sheet masks.
