Play! by Sephora is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription. Each month they send you six samples, a PLAY! BOOK of tips and tricks, and a PLAY! PASS for in-store learning.
I used to work at Sephora so I naturally couldn’t resist this subscription!
FYI - The box variation I received this month is box ending in #682. To find out which box you’re receiving at the beginning of each month, follow these instructions:
If you log in through a browser, not the app, and go to my account > account details > online orders and open the play! Order Details, you can see the “item number” next to the image.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Play! by Sephora #682 Review
Each box comes with a foldable info sheet. The front always has a design related to the theme. This month they have a "Play! List" that shows a bunch of stats about their subscription this year. I love reading stuff like this!
Each box comes with a Play! Pass, which is a card you can use at Sephora (in-store AND newly online as well! Woo!) to get 50 extra rewards points, and you can also get one-on-one tutorials and tips of products from a Sephora consultant.
The opposite side of the info sheet has pictures of each item and details about what they are, how to use them, and why Sephora thinks you’ll love them.
Every month they include all of the samples in a mini bag with a different design. This month's bag is 100% recyclable and zips shut, which I like more than the typical drawstring bags. They've had these recyclable bags for a couple months now. They seem to be the new normal, which I'm happy about!
Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, .33 fl oz - Estimated Value $26.07 (Buy a 1 oz full-size for $79)
This is a great serum. It has grapevine sap which is supposed to be 62 times more effective at brightening skin than Vitamin C, and it also has squalane which is one of my favorite ingredients for hydration. It just sinks right into my skin and absorbs while leaving my skin soft and healthy-feeling.
Kat Von D Saint Eau de Parfum Sample, 1.5 ml - Estimated Value $2.25 (Buy a 1 oz for $45)
Kat Von D Sinner Eau de Parfum Sample, 1.5 ml - Estimated Value $2.25 (Buy a 1 oz for $45)
FYI - these are the Bonus Item for my box.
Kat Von D released these fragrances at the same time as a dichotomy of scents, for you to pick one or the other or to collect the duo together. The Saints fragrance is a classic floral fragrance, and the Sinner fragrance is more warm & spicy.
Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks, 1 set - Estimated Value $4.17 (Buy 6 mask sets for $25)
I've seen these gold foil eye masks in a few subscription boxes but have never received them myself until now. These apply fine and stay well - no awkward slipping down my face or anything. They felt nice and hydrating for a little while after but I didn't notice any lasting effects for the day.
Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator, .24 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.56 (Buy a 1 oz for $30)
I really like Clinique's yellow moisturizer, the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, but I don't care for this Moisture Surge hydrator. I think it's really a matter of my personal skin type, which is dry. This is a gel-like cream, which absorbs quickly but I really don't feel very hydrated from it. My skin just drinks it up.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Sake, .05 fl oz - Estimated Value $8.67 (Buy .15 oz for $26)
Bite Beauty is a brand I really like. They make great products and have clean ingredients, as well. These lipsticks are very pigmented, they smell nice, and they feel creamy and moisturizing. This color, Sake, is a "dusty mauve," and it's beautiful. You can see it swatched and modeled below.
Clinique Quickliner for Eyes Intense Black, .005 oz - Estimated Value $7.50 (Buy a .12 oz for $18)
This eyeliner is a great new discovery for me! I knew Clinique had eyeliners but I hadn't had the chance to try them before. This black, automatic liner has a great level of pigmentation and went on very smoothly without pulling my eye. I could get a nice, precise line too. The staying power is nice, too - it didn't smudge or budge all day.
Here are swatches of the lipstick and the eyeliner.
Here, I'm wearing the eyeliner and the lipstick. Both are great to wear every day!
Verdict: This month's Play! by Sephora box has an estimated value of $55.47, which is a fantastic value from a $10 box. I'm happy with this month, especially with the Caudalie moisturizer and the Clinique eyeliner. I enjoy my Sephora Play! boxes because they will always feature high-end brands. I love trying new things or getting extras of things I already love!
