Let's check out the pampering products included in this box!
SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Shea Butter Lip Balm, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $3.29
This vegan lip balm is made with shea butter, coconut water, imbe oil, and fruit fusion. Apply liberally to replenish and rejuvenate dry chapped lips.
While I love that this lip balm is vegan and has great ingredients, I’m not a fan. I found it to be way too thick making it difficult to squeeze out and difficult to apply evenly across my lips. The worst part is the applicator. It's hard and scratched my already dry and sensitive lips. It also doesn't smell a great as I thought it would be considering the fruit fusion. I suggest using it as a lip mask, applying a small amount to your fingers and gently rubbing the balm across your lips while doing another facial treatment like the Coconut & Hibiscus mask in the Maxing & Relaxing box (review coming soon!).
SheaMoisture African Black Soap Face & Body Bar, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $2.99
Made with natural and organic ingredients, this African black soap cleanses and hydrates both face and body. Perfect for acne-prone and oily skin, this bar promises to calm, clear and balance your skin revealing a clearer complexion.
I tried this soap on both my face and body. On my skin, the soap lathered well and left my skin feeling clean and soft as expected. On my face, I’ve tried a number of different brands of African black soap. My skin isn’t very oily but can be acne-prone. What I noticed different about this SheaMoisture bar was the scent. I can’t place it but there is something in this bar that makes it smell much more pleasant than other African black soap bars I’ve tried. It left my face clean but feeling slightly dry and tight which was also expected. I’ll hold on to this until the summer months when my skin tends to be much oilier and when I find that African black soap works best for me.
Urban Skin RX 3-in-1 Even Tone Cleansing Bar, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $6.99
This multi-use cleansing bar is made with black tea extract and coconut oil and can be used as a cleanser, mask or exfoliator. This bar claims to even out skin tone and brightens dark spots improving the overall appearance of your skin and leaving your complexion bright and clear.
I enjoyed using this product. It comes with a little sponge used to rub the cleansing bar and create a lather. Using the sponge, I massaged the soap onto face and let it sit for 2 minutes per the instructions. My skins felt great after! It was clean and soft and a little brighter – likely from the exfoliating effect of the sponge. Time will tell if this bar helps clear up my dark spots and even out my complexion. I can’t wait to continue using it. Now, I wish the larger 2oz size was included!
Nubian Heritage Coconut & Papaya Bath Bombs, 2 bath bombs – Estimate Value $5.00 (Buy Pack of 6 for $14.99)
Take a relaxing bath with these effervescent bath bombs. With its sweet tropical scent, these bath bombs will leave your skin clean, soft and smelling delicious.
First off, these bath bombs really do smell amazing! I daydreamed of fresh fruit on the beach of a faraway tropical island. But, these bath bombs are really small and my bathtub is really big! I had to use both bath bombs to get the full experience. I wish the full-size box with 6 bath bombs was included. That would have been great considering that I’d need to use them two at a time to really enjoy them.
Verdict: I enjoyed trying all the products in this box. With this being a Black History Month exclusive box, I love that the box includes clean products from black beauty brands. The Urban Skin Rx cleansing bar is my favorite and the bath bombs smell delicious. The lip balm is a bit challenging to use but has super hydrating ingredients that may make it worth the hassle. The African black soap stood out for its great lather and smell.
This box cost $14.99 has an estimated retail value of $18.27. That is only slightly above the cost of the box and not a good value on its own or compared to other Target Beauty Boxes. Most Target Beauty Boxes cost $7 but I have seen other exclusive Target beauty boxes sold for $14.99. For the exclusive boxes, I expect to receive mostly full-size and high-quality items and I expect the box to be a great value. Three of the four products in this box are full-sized but, there is a larger size Skin Rx cleansing bar available and the bath bombs come in a pack of 6. Adding the larger and full-sized items or additional products would have increased the overall value of this box.
